"Big Brother is Watching You." - George Orwell

"There will come a time when it isn't 'They're spying me on my phone' anymore. Eventually, it will be 'My phone is spying on me'" - Philip K. Dick

George Orwell's 1984 and Philip K. Dick's Minority Report may be two of the most prophetic works of fiction ever written.

When given the choice between...

Security vs. Privacy and Convenience vs. Privacy

...we have generally chosen to give up our rights to privacy.

As a result, we live in a rapidly expanding Surveillance State, a mix of tech-fueled surveillance capitalism, and more ominously, an increasingly omnipresent surveillance network feeding into our ever-encroaching governmental agencies.

The Surveillance State feeds on a diet of artificial intelligence, facial recognition technologies, online tracking, smart Internet-connected devices, land-based surveillance cameras, satellites, telephone tracking, video doorbells and digital assistants. Virtually all of our movements and activities, both online and in the physical world, in our homes in in the outside world, including our workplaces, are being tracked and recorded.

While many of us have voluntarily given up our online privacy for the sake of convenience, entertainment and social connections, with ramifications that we are just beginning to appreciate, the surveillance by our local, state and federal entities has proceeded with virtually no debate.

While China may be the poster child for the use and abuse of surveillance technologies, the rest of the world is following them down the rabbit hole.

Please refrain from any partisan bickering. This is a bipartisan issue.
