This board has been created to provide you with an opportunity to share and discuss your favorite podcasts. Podcasts - digital audio files that can be downloaded to your smartphone, computer or home speaker - offer a wide array of diverse entertainment options, news and long form discussions. They are generally available by subscription and new episodes that be automatically to your device. Most podcasts are available for free, although some charge a fee for access. For those new to podcasting, a few weeks ago the New York Times published an informative piece entitled A Beginner's Guide to Getting into Podcasting. In recent years I have become an avid fan of podcasts. Some of my favorite podcasts include This American Life, the Ted Radio Hour, The Moth, Serial, and Freakonomics. Podcasts are becoming a big business. There are currently about 630,000 podcasts available for streaming. Podcasts generated $314 million in revenue in the U.S. in 2017, mainly from ad sa1les, and are expected to generate $402 million and $515 million in 2018 and 2019, respectively. These numbers are dwarfed by the $7.3 billion (mainly from subscriptions) generated in China in 2017.
