Biglari Holdings Inc. (stock symbol: BH) is a holding company which owns subsidiaries and investments in a variety of businesses that include media (Maxim Magazine), property and casualty insurance (First Guard Insurance), as well as restaurants (Western Sizzlin and Steak n Shake). The company also controls 4,737,794 shares of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (stock symbol: CBRL), equal to an approximate 19.8% position in the company.

The company’s stated long-term objective is to “maximize per-share intrinsic value.”

The CEO and controlling shareholder of Biglari Holdings is Sardar Biglari, a self-described value investor in the mold of Warren Buffett and Benjamin Graham. Working with affiliated entities, Biglari Holdings has taken positions in a several public companies that were perceived to be selling below their intrinsic values. Mr. Biglari has actively worked, not always with a lot of tact, to pressure the management groups of these public companies to unlock the value in their companies.
