NEWS RELEASE AUGUST 16, 2000 DIAMOND RECOVERY TO BEGIN RECOVERY MANAGER APPOINTED SHARE DIVIDEND UNDER REVIEW Brighton, MI – McKenzie Bay International Ltd "MKBY" OTC-pinks – Beginning August 21, 2000, a Flowsort technician from Mauritius is to inspect and make final adjustments to a new, recently installed, Flowsort X-ray diamond recovery machine at the Kelsey Lake Diamond Mine. Kelsey Lake, America's only diamond mine, is located on the Colorado-Wyoming state line near Ft. Collins, Colorado. After inspection and adjustments, diamond recoveries are to begin with the commissioning of the recovery machine. Modest diamond recoveries are expected initially, gradually increasing to full production as allowed by additional equipment installations and modifications. Purchase Orders were submitted to Svedala Industries of Denver, Colorado for an engineered pre-treatment plant consisting of, among other items, a primary crusher, screens, conveyors and material handling equipment. In addition, several Svedala slurry pumps were ordered for the main process plant. The equipment selection and design followed extensive on-site testing with Svedala components. McKenzie Bay is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl F. Brink as Diamond Recovery Process Manager. Mr. Brink's experience includes service with BHP as Area Supervisor Assistant Superintendent Plant Operations at the Ekati Diamond Mine; Recovery Plant-Sorthouse Operations Supervisor and Senior Metallurgical Process Technician at the BHP Center for Minerals Technology; and as Process Engineer for BHP diamond exploration and development. He was Senior Geotechnician – kimberlite exploration and evaluation - for Dow Chemical Company and Senior Geological Field Officer and a Geotechnician for DeBeers Consolidated Mines at various Transvaal diamond projects. Mr. Brink co-authored the publications "Stream Sediment Exploration Sampling for Kimberlite in Colorado-Wyoming" and "Techniques of Diamond Extraction". Acting on advice from advisors to increase shareholder value, the Board of Directors has requested the advice of counsel regarding the issuance of a dividend to all shareholders of record in the form of a common share warrant. If this dividend were declared, the Company would expect the warrant to be exercisable for a period of up to two years from the date of record and to entitle each shareholder of record to purchase one common share for each ten common shares held at a price 20% below the prevailing market price at time of exercise.
