Silver Standard Resources Inc. is one of the few publicly-traded silver companies in North America focused on the development of silver-dominant orebodies internationally. The company's objective since 1994 has been to acquire significant in-ground silver resources and advanced projects, and to develop these into silver-producing mines. HISTORY Silver Standard was incorporated in 1946 and has been involved in the exploration for and production of precious metals for over half a century. Since its inception, the company has earned a reputation for integrity and professionalism in the resource industry. Teck Corporation, a multinational producer of gold, base metals and coal, has been a significant shareholder of Silver Standard since 1968. TODAY Silver Standard has interests in five silver projects which are located in Australia, North and South America: the 100%-owned Bowdens project in Australia, the Manantial Espejo project under option (40%) in Argentina, the Candelaria Mine under option (100%) in Nevada, the 100%-owned Bruceside project in British Columbia, and the smaller El Asiento project under option (100%) in Bolivia. Silver Standard's share of silver-equivalent resources in all categories exceeds 300 million ounces. At November 30, 1999, the company had 20.4 million common shares issued and outstanding, and 22.8 million shares on a fully diluted basis, or over 13 silver-equivalent ounces per share. The company has no debt. or hedging commitments. The company's shares are traded on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market under the symbol "SSRI" and the Canadian Venture Exchange under the symbol "SSO." Shares are widely held among retail investors and resource-focused mutual funds in the United States and Canada. Silver Standard's board of directors and senior management are predominantly geologists and mining engineers with extensive experience in the exploration, development, financing and operation of open pit and underground mines.
