(DLB 78.34***) We raise our price target by $6 to $82, 20x our FY 25 (Sep.) EPS view, below DLB’s five-year average (~23x) on soft consumer device volumes and uncertainty about new tariffs. We raise our FY 25 EPS view by $0.30 to $4.10 and initiate FY 26’s at $4.30. DLB posted near-consensus Sep-Q sales of $305M (+5% Y/Y) and above-consensus EPS of $0.81 (+25%). We expect FY 25 to look similar to FY 24, with momentum for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision (+15% organic growth projected) offset by a modest decline in foundational technologies (~60% of FY 24 licensing revenue). DLB sees foundational tech stabilizing, but we see downside risk from increased trade restrictions under Trump, and we hesitate to get bullish on device sales until more details around tariffs emerge. Momentum keeps growing with auto OEMs; DLB added two partners during FQ4 to now total over 20. Both OEMs are associated with China, which we take as an encouraging sign given many U.S. peers’ worsening issues with local Chinese competition in recent periods

[Cooters] Rosenblatt analyst Steve Frankel raised the price target on Dolby Laboratories t...

Rosenblatt analyst Steve Frankel raised the price target on Dolby Laboratories to $100.00 (from $98.00) while maintaining a Buy rating.

The analyst comments "Dolby posted strong Q4 results and gave FY25 guidance that was above the Street, reflecting stabilizing demand and the accretion of the GE Licensing deal. The company has provided robust guidance for fiscal 2025 with expected revenue growth and targeted non-GAAP EPS, signaling confidence in its business trajectory. Despite a decrease in foundational revenues in 2024, stabilization of device volumes and the normalization of consumer behavior post-pandemic are anticipated to support revenue figures.
Additionally, Dolby’s expanding adoption of its Atmos, Vision, and imaging patents across various devices and industries, including automotive and content creation, showcases its technological advancement and market penetration. The strategic acquisition of THEO further enhances Dolby’s capabilities in the streaming space. Furthermore, Dolby’s fiscal performance, with revenue improvements and efficient cost management, along with a recent dividend increase and a substantial share repurchase authorization, underline its commitment to shareholder value. These elements collectively support the bullish outlook and the reaffirmation of a $100 price target.

[Cooters] Fy25 guidance looks excellent. This is the first time I've listened to Robert at length and he was very impressive. I expect the C Suite execs to be sharp and he was!

- DC is at 280 now with 100 in the US at AMC. Over 8,000 screens worldwide have DA. Very interesting offering coming in 2025, a DA/DV install that does not require the capex or re-design to the level of DC. This will be a % of box office model too.

- Interesting discussion on buybacks, Robert pushed back that they are only offsetting stock options, and specifically mentioned how they've taken advantage of share price weakness to reduce the share count.

- Two really funny quotes. He said their name is Dolby Labs not Dolby Save Money, highlighting they are an innovation company. But they have focused on expenses and have taken small restructurings in 6 of the last 10 quarters. The point was they take action when they see opportunities and don't wait for larger restructurings. He also said they have a team that still does basic research with PhD's with more degrees than a thermometer.

- Highlighted two instances where ultra-low latency is essential. One is while attending a live event with not great seats or a view, if you want to see a different view on your phone, it has to appear "live" since your surroundings are reacting in realtime. The other is in game betting, where a prop bet can be the next pitch or some other near term action.

Cooters

[Cooters] Barrington Research Maintains Outperform on Dolby Laboratories, Maintains $100 P...

Barrington Research Maintains Outperform on Dolby Laboratories, Maintains $100 Price Target

5:14 PM ET Aug-09-2024

James Goss has given his Buy rating due to a combination of factors including Dolby Laboratories’ strategic growth initiatives and the potential stabilization of its core market. The company’s foundational technologies, while facing a challenging environment, appear to be stabilizing, and revenues from these technologies are expected to decline only in the low-to-mid-single digits. Additionally, Dolby’s growth sectors such as Atmos, Vision, and Imaging patents are anticipated to accelerate, having already increased their revenue share since the previous year. Goss’s optimism is further buoyed by the broad adoption of these technologies among content creators, which is likely to drive their inclusion on devices with larger volumes.

Moreover, James Goss underscores the expansion of Dolby’s technologies into new devices and markets, including smartphones and automobiles. The acquisition of a patent pool related to video compression and conferencing is viewed as a move that will contribute a stable revenue stream. Financially, Dolby’s recent quarterly results have been positive, with both revenue and earnings surpassing estimates. The reaffirmation of an Outperform rating and a $100 price target is supported by the company’s sound financial health, underscored by a conservative balance sheet and a robust cash position that enables ongoing stock repurchase programs and a reliable dividend yield.

[Cooters] August 07, 2024 23:25 pm ET.. EPS view, below DLB’s 5-year average (~21x) on lingering softness in device sales. We lower our FY 24 EPS view by $0.01 to $3.69 and FY 25’s by $0.23 to $3.80. DLB prints Jun-Q sales of $289M (-3% Y/Y) and EPS of $0.71 (+29%), above consensus, with a weaker-than-expected Sep-Q guide. Licensing sales (92% of Q2 total) fell 2% Y/ Y, with mobile (24% of licensing) growing 25% on new smartphone releases, offset by a 7% decline in broadcast (36%). Products and Services (8%) fell 14% Y/Y on weak box office receipts, though we expect a rebound in ‘25 as new titles are released. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision continue to gain momentum, including in automotive applications (DLB now partners with 20 OEMs) and supportive broadcast content (especially sports, including many high-profile broadcasts like the Olympics), but we expect this strength to be offset by continued weakness in foundational audio technologies (and overall device sales) in the near term

[Cooters] Dolby just upgraded at Barrington 06/03 DLB Barrington upgraded Dolby to Outper...

Dolby just upgraded at Barrington

06/03 DLB Barrington upgraded Dolby to Outperform from Market Perform with a $100 price target after meeting with management. Two thirds of the company's revenues come from what it terms foundational revenues, which consists of the primary audio codecs in digital audio, the analyst tells investors in a research note. The firm says that while those revenues have been pressured in recent years, there are some encouraging signs of stabilization in devices, which may be approaching a device refresh cycle, and a more encouraging inventory environment which would support increased production and shipments. Dolby Atmos (DA) and Dolby Vision (DV) are gaining momentum in mobile, with the company announcing their adoption across an impressive number of new phones, including new releases by Xiaomi, Transsion, and Oppo. We also positively view the continued rollout of content supporting DA/DV, primarily in sports, with Max becoming the first streamer to adopt DA/DV across all of its live sports offerings, which we think will become more popular as consumers increasingly move away from cable. Still, more material growth numbers are unlikely until overall device sales rebound, which we do not expect this year, with unit volumes in automotive, mobile, and TV all projected to be relatively flat in CY 24.

[Cooters] Dolby Expanding the Best Way to Experience Movies by Making Dolby Vision and Dol...

Dolby Expanding the Best Way to Experience Movies by Making Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos Available to All Premium Theater Exhibitors

Dolby Expanding the Best Way to Experience Movies by Making Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos Available to All Premium Theater Exhibitors (yahoo.com)

[Cooters] Morgan Stanley filing archive.fast-edgar.com/20240208/A6LL4222Z22UB2F2222R22Z26...

Morgan Stanley filing

archive.fast-edgar.com/20240208/A6LL4222Z22UB2F2222R22Z26Q3QZZ22A262/DolbyLabsDLB.txt

[Cooters] CFRA Reiterates Hold Rating On Shares Of Dolby Laboratories, Inc. We expect a continued soft environment for both Licensing (sales down 5% Y/Y) and Products & Services (-19%), driven by weak consumer device sales amid continued macro uncertainty. DLB reiterated its mid-term target for a 15-25% revenue CAGR for its imaging patents and Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision products despite expectations of just high-single-digit growth in FY 24. We think this can be achieved given encouraging anecdotal data around Atmos/Vision availability from content providers (with increasing momentum in sporting events) and a growing pipeline of automotive OEM design-wins (13 total, up from 10 exiting FY 23), but we skew our outlook towards the lower end of the range.

[Cooters] Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter 2024 Financial Results Dolby Labor...

Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter 2024 Financial Results

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. - Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter 2024 Financial Results

[Cooters] Rosenblatt Reiterates Buy on Dolby Laboratories, Maintains $98 Price Target BEN...

Rosenblatt Reiterates Buy on Dolby Laboratories, Maintains $98 Price Target

BENZINGA - 7:47 AM ET 1/31/2024

[Cooters] Blackrock filing. That could mean higher royalty payments for artists who are first to embrace the technology made by Dolby Laboratories Inc., said the people, who asked not to be identified because the change hasn’t been announced.

Listeners wouldn’t necessarily have to play the Atmos version of a song for artists to benefit. It only matters that the song is offered in that format. The new policy will encourage artists and labels to record and mix music with Atmos — including older tracks.

Mixing music in Atmos is broadly affordable, according to the people, making it worthwhile for established artists and labels to participate in the hope of seeing a boost in royalties.

Apple’s audio hardware, including AirPods and the HomePod, a small speaker, support Atmos playback. With more tracks available in spatial audio, consumers might want to purchase additional Apple hardware

Apple declined to comment. Digital Music News reported on the company’s plans in October.

Apple first introduced spatial audio to Apple Music in 2021. Supported by technology from Dolby Atmos, the format attempts to more closely mimic the way music sounds in-person where it can come from various points around the listener’s head.

Amazon Inc.’s Music app also offers Dolby Atmos-supported spatial audio to its users as part of their subscriptions at no extra cost. TCL, a world leading TV brand, will be the first to implement Dolby Atmos FlexConnect in its 2024 TV lineup.

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is a new feature that seamlessly pairs together a TV’s sound system with accessory wireless speakers to unlock a more extensive and immersive Dolby Atmos sound experience. It then intelligently optimizes the sound for any room layout and speaker setup, transforming any seat into the best seat in the house. TCL will also launch a line of accessory wireless speakers designed to complement its upcoming lineup of TVs with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect.

“Consumers shouldn’t have to move their furniture to experience better audio, but rather audio should adapt to them,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President, Entertainment, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is an entirely new category of experience that offers consumers the freedom and flexibility to choose how they want to arrange their devices while still getting a great immersive Dolby Atmos experience.”

“We are very proud to take a significant step forward on the future of immersive audio with our latest partnership with Dolby. Delivering great experiences for our customers is at the forefront of what we do,” said Frédéric Langin, Chief Commercial Officer, TCL Europe. “With Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, users can unlock incredible immersive sound no matter how they arrange their audio devices. Probably the best synopsis of the company I've heard.

Some details:

- Atmos/Vision grew 30% last year.

- They are seeing a ton of DV wins in China on both the handset and TV side, plus with content providers.

- Indian Premier League is now DA, which they anticipate to drive device sales to take advantage of.

- 4K TV penetration for DV up to 25%.
Coot

[Cooters] CFRA MAINTAINS BUY RATING ON SHARES OF DOLBY LABORATORIES, INC. 9:20 pm ET May ...

CFRA MAINTAINS BUY RATING ON SHARES OF DOLBY LABORATORIES, INC.

9:20 pm ET May 5, 2023

We cut our target to $94 from $96 on a P/E of 29.5x, above its three-year historical average due to a more positive outlook, using our next-12-month EPS view of $3.18. We increase our FY 23 EPS estimate to $3.48 from $3.45 and FY 24's to $3.86 from $3.73. DLB posted Q2 revenue of $376M, above consensus by $26M, and non-GAAP EPS of $1.26 beat by $0.29. Revenue outperformance (+12.4% Y/Y) was primarily driven by demand for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and its imaging patents, as well as strong growth in Products and Services (+18% Y/Y). Not surprisingly, lower PC unit shipments and weakness in the consumer electronic markets depressed sales in its foundational audio technologies. We expect that this will continue to be a challenge for the remainder of FY 23. Despite the continuing pressures in this category, we highlight that strength in Vision, Atmos, and its imaging patents will more than offset the decline in foundational technologies given the pick-up in momentum and demand from its growing range of partners.

[Cooters] Dolby Showcases Global Momentum at CinemaCon 2023 Dolby Showcases Global Moment...

Dolby Showcases Global Momentum at CinemaCon 2023

Dolby Showcases Global Momentum at CinemaCon 2023 (yahoo.com)

Dolby Laboratories, a leader in immersive entertainment experiences, will highlight global momentum and its latest product innovations at CinemaCon 2023. TO BUY FROM HOLD
5:13 am ET February 6, 2023 (CFRA)

We raise our 12-month target price to $96 from $67, on a P/E of 29x, above its three-year historical average on promising growth in new technologies, and anticipated recovery in foundational audios, using our next-12-month EPS view of $3.32. We increase our FY 23 EPS forecast to $3.45 from $3.37 and lift FY 24's EPS to $3.73 from $3.46. DLB posted Q1 sales of $335M, above consensus by $28.3M, and non-GAAP EPS of $1.11 beat by $0.32. Results were better than feared (-5% Y/Y) from higher-than-estimated shipments in its broadcast and gaming segments, offset by weakness in PCs, mobile, and other consumer electronics (CE), consistent with trends in the broader market. DLB guided for FY 23 revenue to grow in the low-single digits. While the market environment continues to be uncertain, we see the potential for growth upside as the CE and PC markets improve in H2 FY 23. We note rising market traction with Dolby Atmos and Vision as partnerships with end-market vendors grow and use cases broaden into more verticals.

[Cooters] Significant price action the last 2 days, on volume, along with a few bullish ca...

Significant price action the last 2 days, on volume, along with a few bullish call option buys. EPS estimate. We lower our '22 EPS forecast to $3.76 from $3.92 and our '23 EPS view to $4.30 from $4.40. DLB posted sales of $352M, a miss of $10.6M, while non-GAAP EPS was $1.01, below consensus of $1.06. Revenue fell 10% Y/Y from lower licensing fees and shipment volumes for its foundational audio technologies in the gaming and consumer electronic markets (negative $6M true-up). Supply chain issues are casting significant uncertainty for the industry, and we expect DLB's licensing performance to be at risk in the short term. This is offset partially by DLB making in-roads in expanding partnerships with major brands to incorporate Dolby Vision and Atmos in more electronic products, and benefitting from higher adoption of these technologies. Guidance for Q2 signals conservative expectations, and DLB is likely to see pressures on both its top and bottom line in FY 22.

[Cooters] No comments yet, but Barrington maintains Outperform and 115 target, Colliers ma...

No comments yet, but Barrington maintains Outperform and 115 target, Colliers maintains Buy but looks like target to 100 from 110.

[Cooters] Dolby Q1 2022 earnings call notes - 2/3/22 The revenue and EPS numbers were wit...

Dolby Q1 2022 earnings call notes - 2/3/22

The revenue and EPS numbers were within the range but closer to the low end, There was a negative $6M trueup in the quarter that would have made up most of it. They started the call 30 minutes earlier than normal. resulting in only 2 analysts joining Q&A. There also was a new guy named Robert that did the CFO part.

- A few really big and important customer additions recently. Dell and ASUS will be supporting DA and DV in their PCs. Samsung will be adding DA in their TV lineup. More on that later. Mercedes Benz and NIO will be including DA in some car models.

- Added 250M to their buyback auth. bringing it to 506M. They bought back 400K shares in Q1 and ended the Q with 1.26B in cash. In the Q&A they said there will be a meaningful step-up in buybacks in the next few quarters.

- They acquired privately held Millicast to enhance their dolby.io offering, and later said we may see more of that. Millicast customers include NBC, NFL, and Disney, I think in the sports area.

- Though only 2 guys called in, they both asked about DA at Samsung TVs for the first time. Samsung does use DA already in sound bars and phones. They feel this is a natural progression of Samsung adopting Dolby products. The watershed event would be Samsung adopting DV

- DC revenue continues to grow but they didn't provide any metrics, probably cause they weren't asked.

Cooters

[Cooters] Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter Fiscal 2022 Financial Results Dolby La...

Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter Fiscal 2022 Financial Results

Dolby Laboratories Reports First Quarter Fiscal 2022 Financial Results (yahoo.com)

[Cooters] Collier out with a report and a price target of 110(not sure what it was), but d...

Collier out with a report and a price target of 110(not sure what it was), but don't see any details

[Cooters] November 17, 2021 08:44 AM ET... (DLB 89.00***):

We lower our 12-month target price to $94 from $100, on a P/E of 24x, aligned with its three-year historical average, using our FY 22 (Sep.) EPS estimate. We start our FY 23 EPS estimate at $4.40, and raise FY 22 to $3.92 from $3.91. DLB posted Q4 revenue of $285M, below expectations of $300M, and non-GAAP EPS of $0.58, a beat of $0.02. Revenue was weaker than anticipated due to timing in the payment of a contract, and lower broadcast sales. Looking ahead, we see reasons for optimism from accelerating growth of Dolby Atmos and Vision, as well as improved performance in Dolby Cinema from more people returning to movie theaters. This is offset by supply chain issues which would impact consumer electronics, in turn casting uncertainty in DLB’s foundational audio revenues, potentially a large drag on sales. After a strong year of growth on improving business conditions, we expect DLB’s business to post modest gains in FY 22, and profitability to normalize on returning travel and hiring expenses
