Well, there's a surprise! PRTA up about 90% this morning after good results for Alzheimer's drug at BIIB and Alsai. I don't know what the connection is though Alzheimers and ameloid plaque has been the area of concentration for PRTA all the way back to the 1980's when they were ELAN. I did not expect this at all and sold one lot last week at $32. Price now $57. I also own some puts to take shares at $35 in December which apparently are going to expire worthless. But by lucky break I also had calls sold at $35 and $40 which expired last week worthless.

I should also remember that BIIB wound up owning parts of ELAN some years ago after which scientists from Elan formed up PRTA though the details on that are fuzzy to me. They still occupy some of the Elan buildings in S. San Francisco I believe and I walked through there during the last alzheimers craze.

Don’t recall if I ever told you that a friend with Merkel cell carcinoma was in an Immune Design clinical trial and had a complete response; the only one of ten in the trial. Still no sign of recurrence!

Shorting the ICPT news. It's going to be a tough launch in that market with the pruritus issue. Am also hearing they danced around a Hy's law question :>|

Edit: to elaborate on pruritus, the dropout rate due to that was 9% in the 25mg arm, the one that demonstrated efficacy. Severe pruritus mandated discontinuation. So the vast majority of the pruritus related dropouts were at patient discretion. That's not going to help sales.

So...... twitter comments from those who posture as knowing about the Otsuka project.... Otsuka efficacy not as pronounced as for the axsm combo. PR text........ modest trial size, toxicity not at all an issue. Not sufficiently tested, for sure. Know nada about tox from Otsuka.

Combination of generics.... sounds good to me! Only things that caught my eye were market cap in context of market size, and PR's wording re. tox. Critical evaluation it wasn't.

Otsuka has a DM-quinidine combo, similar ideas as AXSM with DM-Bupropion, originally for MDD. Now this combo is de-prioritized for reasons due to either DDI or tox. (rumored to be tox in humans, I know no details of SAEs).

What is to stop taking the two generics?
