Thanksgiving in Texas at my mother's house many, many eons ago. I would pay more than any of you know just to be there with them all just one more time!

Big turkey roasted to perfection--with Giblet gravy
Smashed potatoes with cream gravy
Small green peas
Homemade hot rolls w/butter
Two kinds of cranberry sauce
Pecan pie w/vanilla ice cream on top (homemade until my mom got really old)
OR
Pumpkin pie w/whipped cream on top (homemade until my mom got really old)

Since you're asking, if we ate at home or at a nearby friend/relative it was 100% turkey, though I do recall one time my parents' best friends had a bone-in ham in addition to the nearly 30 pound turkey. Another time (just once, though), we ate at a Pennsylvania Dutch restaurant in Pennsylvania where the meal was served family-style and in addition to the huge mound of sliced white/dark turkey meat (with about 6 turkey legs as I recall), we also got sliced bone-in ham and several large bowls of roasted chicken pieces (breasts, legs, thighs, wings). It's probably the one meal I remember best from my childhood (maybe age 11 or so at the time).

Christmas was 100% of the time baked bone-in hams (usually just a normal smoked ham, but every few years or so, a baked Virginia ham). New Years Day was always a beef roast or (rarely) London broil slices.

I know that makes it sound like we ate high off the hog back then, but the truth is that those holidays were truly exceptions to our regular meals. The rest of the year was various forms of chopped meat, hot dogs, inexpensive fish, on sale chicken (or even turkey if you could find it in the supermarket).

47 planes at YHZ in addition to the 50 or more in the very small town of Gander, NFLD and yes there is a play. Newfies are truly salt of the earth with their salt cod.

We had a family of 4 come to our humble abode for showers and a meal. They did not stay overnight. I stay in touch with them.
Meanwhile ever since about 2011 USA customs completely harasses me when entering over a nothing. Back room - drilled. missed flights - not worth the hassle anymore. Portugal welcomes us with open arms. Give a wanna be cop a uniform is a recipe for attitude issues. I lost my temper with him over the questions. I was unaware if my Dad was alive or dead trying to get there. Yes I had no luggage. Yes I booked at last minute and YES I booked one way. I had not slept. YES I LOST MY TEMPER.

If I had $50k in stocks even in a non margin account I could place a $20k buy settling to bank account as as long as I flattened position by the end of the day my bank would be credited or debited with the net difference. Most Canadians, including me, have friends and relatives in the US who we value as individuals, but currently there is only one country threatening the existence of Canada. Yes, we have issues with the likes of India, China, Russia, and North Korea, but currently we really have only one enemy, the United Stats, and I can't see that changing unless the cabal of right wing extremists controlling your government are repelled.

Th number of Canadians traveling to the US did stabilize a bit after the initial steep plunge, but it is starting to drop again. Yes, Canadians have a deserved reputation for being polite, but it is not a good idea to engage us in the fight.

Just think about what has happened. After more than a century of being the US's neighbour and closest friend and ally, they without warning punched us in the face and told us that if we did anything to defend ourselves, they would punch us again.

I met the mayor who explained to our group for 2 hours from Labrador one evening. this was about two years ago a road scholar trip covering Newfoundland and mostly Labrador, He was a very close friend of our group leader from Newfoundland who did independent tours. I forgot the place we stayed at for about three days with limited electric. the government put a lot of money fixing up the town on this island. It was september and was closing shortly after we left. they experience polar bears during the winter trying to get into the few cabins. the island existed on cod. they caught it and processed it and then shipped or had clients come in. Each day we would visit another location and come back to this island as home base. We visited a light house that a family ran for about 80 years. we heard the stories of military ships during the war hitting rocks in the strait. the retired mayor and our group leader just happened to meet and we invited him and i think his sister to join us for dinner that night. the management were cooking over a wood stove i think no electric. well the mayor explained he travel the countries as an introduction to the play about the event. twenty years later the story still brought tears to his eyes. what these people did was amazing. for example. he got a call was told these planes would be landing shortly in an old air military airbase and take care of them. He had no idea how long. everyone was thinking over night perhaps. he called the town leaders and had them get blankets, soups, etc for them to stay in gyms etc. when the town saw these people they said. "they can't stay here , there clothing was still on the planes figured they would take off again. One family explain the woman says your my size take what you need from the closet. another man took in a family of four and said enjoy yourselves i got to go. they asked your leaving us in your house and he said i got to go to work.!

what a wonderful trip. I wanted to visit Labrador. as i always heard my grandmother came from there via newfoundland and to pei. well i would ask any one the name Bolger in a few towns i visited and it was like there were a lot of bolger's. ah. took bad i couldn't take the time visit longer . the people are fantastic!!!!

Hi all, glad to find this forum been lurking on a few precious metals boards while I get my bearings.

I've been buying physical silver for a while, mostly bullion and the odd coin. Lately I've started digging into the mining side of things too reading up on junior explorers and how a project actually moves from drill results to production. Still very much learning that part, so if anyone has go-to threads or resources on the exploration/mining-stock side, I'd genuinely appreciate a pointer.

My grandfather was in his final hours in a Florida hospital and they detained me because I had bought one way ticket and had no luggage .yeah. Could not be any more logical really. Missed my flights and connections. Overnight in Pittsburg. Missed him dying and 3 weeks later went back to clean up some affairs. Detained again and drilled on why I was detained the first time. Lets just say I lost it on these keystone cops and was denied entry. That was 15 years ago. I have gone back 3 times but detained every time to be verbally harrassed and raped .not worth the stres

Getting into the US for Canadians these days has become a rather unpleasant experience by road and by air. I have given up on it as have many (not just) Canadians. US tourist traffic / spending proves it.
