Cottonwoods, the bane of my existence in the spring but they certainly hold the riverbanks in the Midwest.

Cottonwoods make for really lousy firewood. A neighbor said if you let them cure for 3-4 yrs they burn just fine. Not trying it. We have monsters all along our rivers here.
