Good summary. Your milestones are things that I have obsessed over for a long time. I don't see how a road with those milestones leads anywhere good. These sort of arrational periods in history don't look to appealing to live through when viewed through the filter of time. And I have no confidence that it will be any better this time around. It is tempting to look back at those times and say "what were those people thinking?". But the answer is pretty clear. They weren't. It is all emotion and if something seems vaguely rational and thought out, then that is purely accidental. The part I never could see was how some people can so filter the information available so that they can claim their side is the logical one and it is everyone else who is delusional.
