I really don't know much about this subject but it would seem to me that if it got cold enough so that you need to add supplemental coils to a heat pump, wouldn't it be more efficient to use a furnace? TIA

Warmed up to 14 degrees and heat pump is blowing some warm air now.

Single digits is past the tipping point.

Tonight will be colder, but should get into the twenties in a couple of days.
