Got my sound working in Linux using alsamixer which is pre-installed.

To start alsamixer, open a command terminal and type alsamixer and press enter.

Note: Alsamixer uses arrow keys to navigate.

What I did next was press F6 and selected my sound card and pressed enter.

At this point I changed Headphones to Multichannel because I wasn't getting speaker sound.
