Lampert explained his views on SSS and why they are deceptive and not important to investors in one of his first post-merger messages.

I understand all that. I probably should have stated that he either needs to fix the stores or accelerate the liquidation process. At some point you run out of costs that can be cut without permanently undermining the core business. After his excellent start, Lampert has done little to enhance shareholder value. The stock price reflects that fact.

I am sure that Lampert would argue that he has prevented a further decline in value.
