International Standards Consortium Welcomes Enterprise Data Integration Software Provider
WESTBORO, Mass., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ascential Software Corporation (Nasdaq: ASCL - News), the enterprise data integration leader, today joined OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), an international consortium advancing e-business standards for Web services and other technologies. Ascential Software will leverage its deep experience in enterprise data integration to help shape OASIS Standards with an emphasis on the unique challenges of data profiling, quality and transformation.
ADVERTISEMENT "Ascential Software's strength in enterprise data integration complements the application integration expertise of other OASIS members," said Patrick Gannon, president and CEO of OASIS. "We expect Ascential Software's participation in our standards development processes will enhance the value of its products within its customers' service-oriented architectures (SOAs)."
OASIS produces worldwide standards, including ebXML, UDDI, WS-Security, and SAML. Ascential Software today underscored its decision to join OASIS by reaffirming its commitment to these and other IT, business and vertical industry standards.
"Connecting systems within the enterprise as well as with suppliers, partners and customers is paramount for today's enterprise," said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink, an IT market intelligence firm that provides advice and insight into XML, Web services, and Service Orientation. "Web services offer a new approach to solving integration challenges by leveraging the widespread adoption of standards for system-to-system communication. Ascential Software is taking full advantage of this trend and leads the market in delivering service-based solutions. The company, a 2003 ZapThought Leader, has transformed enterprise data integration by extending its data profiling, quality and transformation capabilities to Web services and SOAs."
OASIS is one of many standards bodies in which Ascential Software participates. Others include the Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I), the Global Grid Forum and RosettaNet.
WS-I is an open industry organization committed to promoting interoperability among Web services based on common, industry-accepted specifications and related technologies such as XML, SOAP and others. WS-I helps organizations implement standards across the broadest range of interoperability needs.
In May, Ascential Software became the first enterprise data integration software provider to join the Global Grid Forum (GGF). GGF is an industry forum created to advance grid computing, which has the potential to lower costs and boost the efficiency of computing networks by expanding resources, allocating processing power wherever it is needed, anywhere in the world, increasing storage capacity and enhancing data exchange. Ascential Software is applying its expertise in parallel computing and enterprise data integration to help formulate standards that ensure the creation of scalable, high- throughput commercial computing grids.
RosettaNet is a non-profit consortium of more than 400 of the world's leading information technology, electronic components, semiconductor manufacturing and solution provider companies working to create, implement and promote open e-business process standards.
"There are two very good reasons for embracing standards and, when appropriate, leading their development," said David Smiley, Ascential Software product manager for standards, open source technologies and operating system strategies. "One, our customers are demanding open systems to preserve their independence from proprietary solutions so they can make purchase decisions based chiefly on the merits of the software. And two, using standard application interfaces enables us to focus on our core competency -- enterprise data integration -- rather than customizing integrations with other products. Standards benefit both customers and vendors, and our commitment to them is stronger than ever."
