It is unfortunate that these people live in a country that does not respect the Geneva Convention. The consequences of the tactics of the irregulars and the guerrillas is that innocent people will die when our soldiers act to ensure their safety.

What would you do if you were in their position? Risk you life again to find out in a flash that you erred and that you and your buddies will die in an instant as a result.

Remember you are 19 years old.

Fwiw, there was a TV news report that stated the van was moving 40 to 50 mph towards the checkpoint. Could be the reason why they didn't get shots off sooner...bwdik

So he wasn't on the spot, was he? Far enough away that he had to use binoculars to see what was happening, and radio to communicate.

Which isn't the same thing as looking directly at a car headed straight for you, and isn't stopping.
