LG Display handed the No. 1 position to a Chinese company in the global large display panel market.

2017-11-27 18:14:36

According to market research firm IHS Markets, market share of BOE in the 9-inch and larger display panel market, which is used for monitors, notebook PCs, tablet PCs and other products in the third quarter, topped the market with a market share of 21.7%. LG Display followed closely with 19.3%, followed by Innolux (16.1%), AUO (15.8%) and Samsung Display (8.9%).

LG Display slashed its BOE by 7.1 percentage points in the first quarter of last year, but narrowed its market share gap with BOE by 3.2 percentage points in the third quarter of last year.In the first three months of this year, it was able to overtake in 3Q09 due to short-term differences such as 0.4% point in the first quarter and 0.7% point in the second quarter. For the 31st consecutive quarter since the fourth quarter of 2009, Mercury fell to No. 1 spot.

With BOE's full-fledged operation of the 8.5G production line this year, the gap between LG Display and LG Display is expected to widen further. In addition, China Star, a subsidiary of Chinese home appliance maker TCL, and CEC-Panda are also investing in large LCD production lines.

However, LG Display, which produces a large number of premium products based on sales and product area, is still dominant. In particular, UHD display panels accounted for 31.5% and 22.5% share of LG Display and Samsung Display in terms of unit shipments, respectively, while BOE (13.1%) and Innolux (12% did.

Experts advise that the transition to UHD panels and OLEDs should be accelerated to prepare for next generation battlefields in order to maintain their position as a display powerhouse. As China is expanding its shipment volume in the general LCD panel market, domestic makers will have to take the lead in the premium panel market rather than compete in a bleeding competition.

There is also concern that the government's approval for LG Display's plan to construct a Chinese OLED panel plant will be delayed on the extension line. It is pointed out that the timely investment should take advantage of the preemption in the premium market, but the government's approval will be delayed so that the strategy will be disrupted.

Earlier, LG Display announced plans to establish a joint venture for OLED production in Guangzhou, China in July, but it has not been approved by the government due to concerns over leakage of core technology. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy held a subcommittee meeting on March 30 last month but failed to reach a conclusion. As early as the end of this month, the Commission of Electrical and Electronics Experts and the Committee for the Protection of Industrial Technologies shall draw conclusions.

An industry observer said, "We have been able to advance to the top of the world by pushing ahead with the display mainland Japan with advanced investment in LCD," he said. "We should make sure that the upcoming investment in OLED can defend China's LCD chase."

Some say the government has deliberately delayed the approval of Chinese authorities due to the Saad deployment. The two governments have voiced the normalization of relations and the approval of the Korean government has begun to count down.

This sentence from your post brings to mind UDC and their analyst discussions about developing emitters that meet customer specific needs.

Apple demanding a unique OLED and then splitting their orders among multiple vendors will be a huge win for UDC. They will be able to maintain higher ASP's even as the volumes increase since each vendor has their own individual price/volume discounts.

Of course, it is possible that Apple eventually knocks on UDC's door looking for cumulative volume discounts across manufacturers.

The hit piece is having the desired effect.
Fake news works.

I suspect the author was hoping for much greater magnitude. The 2% decline takes us back to where we were on Wednesday - two working days ago. In my portfolio of two dozen stocks, two are down further than OLED today, and two are up a greater percentage. We're going to have down days - with or without such blatant attempts to repress the price.

OLED TV Remains Its Dominance in High-end Market, TrendForce Says

Published: Nov 27,2017

OLED TV and QLED TV have been competing for years, but OLED TV is expected to remain its remarkable dominance in high-end TV market in 2018, says WitsView, a division of TrendForce. More brands are expected to enter OLED TV market in 2018 with a growing field rate, and the shipments are expected to reach a new high of 2.5 million units, a significant increase from 1.5 million in 2017.

Promotional efforts from major TV brands such as SONY have raised shipments of OLED TVs above the expected level this year. In contrast, major QLED TV makers including Samsung, TCL and Hisense have experienced some issues of promoting QLED due to its high pricing. Despite of OLED’s lifespan problems including color decay of organic material and burn-in issue, major TV brands are still interested in research and development of OLED which can be thinner with potentials in constant optimization of color saturation and contrast, while the development of LCD is approaching a limit.

QLED TV makers have been advocating its features of better color saturation and no lifespan problems, however, the self-emitting QD display has not yet met the commercial market standards because its light output is difficult to last for a long time due to the low external quantum efficiency. Therefore, in short term, QLED advocates will still use QD backlight products to compete with their rivals.

In QD backlight products, the backlight system involves a quantum dot enhancement film (QDEF). Quantum dots are activated by the light from LED to create more highly saturated colors. However, the backlight system, a necessary component of TV, will make it thicker, which is less competitive than OLED. So the new generation of QLED TV will probably use glass light guide plate as a solution for thinner TV.

In addition, pricing is also a big problem for QLED TV this year. Taking the 55-inch 4K TV as an example, the retail price difference between OLED TVs and QLED TVs is only about 100 US dollars. However, with the promotional efforts by major TV makers like LG and SONY, OLED TV has become a representation of high-end TV in consumers’ perception in recent years. So too high pricing of QLED TV may reduce the consumers’ purchase intention.

WitsView estimates that, QD CF and QD self-emitting displays, a new generation of display technologies, which QLED advocates are expecting, will not enter mass production until 2020, at the earliest. So far, however, the highest possible resolution of OLED can only reach 4K due to technical limitations, while QD backlight has no restrictions regarding resolution. Therefore, for QLED TV brands, 8K TV may be a breakthrough opportunity for them to regain their competitiveness in high-end TV market.

LG OLED TVs will be the first with Dolby TrueHD technology

November 27, 2017

The Korean manufacturer has managed to stand up to Samsung thanks to its line of TVs LG OLED TV. The technology created by the company has managed to face its main rival thanks to vivid and sharp colors. And now we have reason to think about buying one of the brand's solutions: LG OLED TV TVs from 2017 will be updated to receive Dolby TrueHD technology.

In this way the range of LG OLED TVs will be the first in the market to receive this technology through a firmware update. What does this mean? that not only the newest TVs of the brand will be compatible, but that any LG OLED TV device of 2017 will have Dolby True HD.

All LG OLED TVs will feature Dolby TrueHD technology through an update It is not the first time that LG is ahead of its competitors in the audio sector. At the time, the range of LG OLED TV televisions were the first to feature Dolby Atmos technology and now they are repeating success by incorporating Dolby TrueHD technology into their line of televisions. With this technology the sound sounds much clearer and clear to have a unique experience while enjoying multimedia content.

"LG OLED TV TV sets have established themselves as a reference for the Premium television market, and are the optimal platform for those who want to enjoy content as its creators conceived it" - says Anaís Moreno, Marketing Director of LG Electronics Spain. "By incorporating Dolby's imaging and audio technologies, LG will once again excel itself and break the barriers of the cinematic experience at home."

What is the QLED technology of Samsung TVs

Say that the update will be very simple because you only have to perform a firmware update that is already available on any LG OLED TV TV 2017 , thanks to the Dolby AC-4 decoder that has inside and that are compatible with Dolby TrueHD technology.

This update for LG OLED TVs also includes Codec MAT (Audio Transmission by Metadata in its acronym in English) that will allow you to enjoy Dolby TrueHD sound not only when viewing multimedia content but also when we are playing video games. To say that there are a lot of sound bars that are compatible with this technology and there are currently more than 100 titles available that support the sound with Dolby TrueHD technology.
