News Release: Eastmain options Abitibi extension to Quaterra

Eastmain Resources Inc ER
Shares issued 16,326,187 May 3 close $0.23
Tue 4 May 99 News Release
Also Quaterra Resources Inc (QTA)
Mr. Donald Robinson reports
Eastmain Resources and Quaterra Resources have signed an option agreement
whereby Quaterra can earn a 50 per cent interest in Eastmain's Abitibi
extension project in exchange for $1.53-million in financing over four
years and 300,000 shares of Quaterra, or the cash equivalent at 15 cents
per share. The first year work commitment by Quaterra is $300,000 (not
including an initial cash payment of $30,000), with Eastmain as the project
operator. The project covers the unexplored western extension of the famous
Abitibi greenstone belt, which has accounted for past production in excess
of 170 million ounces of gold, 625 million ounces of silver, nine million
tonnes of copper and 19 million tonnes of zinc, at an estimated value of
$85-billion.
In 1995, BHP Minerals commenced a regional exploration program based on
airborne magnetic survey data and concluded that the metal-endowed Abitibi
greenstone belt extended beneath the thick glacial clay deposits of
Northern Ontario. BHP concluded that this western extension of the Abitibi
is highly prospective for world-class massive sulphide, nickel, copper-zinc
and gold deposits. BHP also concluded that improved technology using new
multicoil airborne electromagnetic geophysical systems could see through
the thick clay cover and detect bedrock conductors for the first time. BHP
flew 25,000 line kilometres of airborne magnetic surveys and 3,775 line
kilometres of airborne electromagnetic surveys, which identified greater
than 50 high-priority conductors within a favourable geological setting.
Eastmain acquired the project and data from BHP in 1997 in exchange for a 2
per cent net smelter return with a 50 per cent buyout at any time for
$1.0-million.
Eastmain and Quaterra have commenced a $450,000 surface exploration program
consisting of line cutting and ground geophysical surveys to confirm the
location, conductive strength and orientation of bedrock electromagnetic
targets. This program is scheduled to commence immediately and will be
followed by a phase 1, 3,000-metre diamond drill program to test an initial
10-15 targets in this high metal potential district.
Quaterra also reported today that the $300,000 unit private placement
reported in Stockwatch April 14, 1999, will be partially brokered as to
$125,000 by Haywood Securities Inc., which will receive a 7 per cent cash
commission on the brokered portion plus two-year warrants to purchase
125,000 common shares of Quaterra at 15 cents in the first year and 18
cents in the second year. Quaterra will pay a cash finder's fees of 7 per
cent on an additional 533,333 units.

Tingley Brook Results?
Eastmain informed me about 2 weeks ago that drilling has been completed on this project so it's likely to be that results will be released next week. That's the usual pattern for this stock.
Unusual volume on Friday,123K. Hope it's good news.

High grade gold discovered in two major veins at
Clearwater

TORONTO, ONTARIO--Eastmain Resources Inc. (TSE: ER) and SOQUEM
Inc. are pleased to announce high grade gold assay results from
surface stripping at Clearwater, Quebec. Fifty-three channel
samples taken at five- to ten-metre-intervals have confirmed
continuous ore grade gold across mineable widths on two newly
discovered veins. Clearwater is a joint venture project owned
equally by Eastmain and SOQUEM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of
SGF Minerals.

High-grade gold has been detected throughout the newly discovered
130-metre-long P Vein. Fire assay results from X-RAY Assay
Laboratories in Rouyn-Noranda, include: 220.26 gpt gold /0.4 m
(6.43 ounces per ton), 74.4 gpt /0.6 m, 45.69 gpt /0.5 m, 17.5 gpt
/2.1 m, 22.05 gpt /2.4 m, 44.86 gpt/1.0 m and 28.22 gpt over 0.4
m. The P Vein contains an average uncut grade of 12.21 gpt (0.36
ounces) gold across a minimum two-metre mining width.

The O and Q Veins, discovered 15 metres north of P, contain ore
grade gold over mineable widths for a length of 150 metres.
Similar to the adjacent P Vein, very high gold grades were
detected throughout their lengths. These include 271.5 gpt gold /
0.4 m (7.93 ounces per ton), 64.32 gpt /2.0 m, 117.16 gpt /0.4 m,
24.31 gpt/1.7 m and 44.02 gpt /0.8 m. The O and Q Veins contain an
average grade of 10.7 gpt (0.31 ounces) gold across a mineable
width. These veins blossom at the eastern end into a
10.5-metre-wide tourmaline zone containing 3.9-gpt gold. The O, P
and Q veins are open to the west.

Stripping has also exposed the J Vein for a length of 80 metres.
High-grade gold assays within the J Vein include 38.16 gpt gold
/0.7 m and 59.68 gpt /0.70 m and a three metre wide tourmaline
zone grading 17.69 gpt gold. The J Vein, located five metres north
of O and Q, contains a drill-indicated resource of 400,000 tonnes
grading 10.03 gpt (0.29 ounces) gold (uncut).

The average grade of the new veins - O, Q and P - is consistent
with the J Vein's drill-indicated resource. Additional stripping
and detailed drilling at 25-metre-centres is required to better
evaluate the tonnage potential for the project. Discovery of the
new veins at Clearwater improves its potential to become a gold
producer.

Soquem inc. is a division of SGF Mineral inc., which is a
subsidiary of the SGF. The mission of the SGF is to carry out
economic development projects in cooperation with partners and in
accordance with accepted requirements of profitability, in
particular the industrial sector. Since 1985, the SGF has produced
investments in the region of $6.7 billion, thereby enabling the
creation of 22,000 jobs, directly and indirectly. As of December
31st 1998, the consolidation of assets of the SGF totaled $1.8
billion. Furthermore, the consolidation assets of all the
companies in which the SGF holds a share represent an amount of
$10 billion. The SGF is associated with 34 international partners
conducting business operations in Quebec.

A new drilling campaign for Eastmain/Quaterra.

At the same time, Eastmain/SOQUEM are drilling Clearwater.

Statistically, they should hit something somewhere!

Re: News Release - February 25, 2000
Drilling Abitibi's Final Frontier
===========================================================================

Eastmain Resources Inc. (ER-TSE) and Quaterra Resources Inc. (QTA-VSE) are pleased to announce the initiation of the first phase of drilling on their Abitibi Extension Project, Northeastern Ontario. The project covers the western extension of the famous Abitibi Greenstone Belt, one of the most metal-endowed regions in the world. The drill program will test 12 to 15 magnetic and electromagnetic (EM) anomalies highly prospective for copper-zinc-silver-gold VMS deposits, ultramafic-hosted nickel-copper-platinum group metals and lode gold ore bodies.

The partners acquired a proprietary airborne geophysical survey from BHP Minerals in 1998. This survey included 3,775 line-kilometres of Geotem EM data and 25,000 line-kilometres of magnetic data, covering one of the final unexplored frontiers of the Canadian Shield. In April 1999, Eastmain and Quaterra staked 24,160 hectares in four large claim blocks covering all of the first and second priority targets within the Geotem survey. Two hundred line-kilometres of ground EM and magnetic surveys completed on the Nett River claim block confirm a multitude of anomalies to be drilled.

Drill targets to be tested on the Nett River Belt include an array of short and long, strong and weak EM anomalies which wrap around a strong magnetic feature interpreted as a folded iron formation. This setting is a mirror image of Placer Dome multi-million-ounce Musselwhite gold deposit in Northwestern Ontario.

Adjacent to the iron formation is a regional volcanic centre comparable to the geological setting of the Noranda and Timmins base metal mining camps. Giant copper-zinc-silver (VMS) massive sulphide deposits, ranging in size from 60 to 150 million tonnes of ore, have been discovered in both camps. This phase-one drill program will test several 500- to 1000-metre-long strong EM conductors indicative of possible base metal deposits. A second area within the Nett River Belt is underlain by a regional gravity high. Similar gravity highs also flank the Noranda and Timmins camps. Six EM targets have been identified about the margin of this gravity anomaly and are recommended for drilling.

The Nett River claim block is also prospective for massive nickel-copper-platinum group metals, as circular magnetic anomalies with associated airborne EM conductors along their margins have been detected from airborne geophysics.

Like the early days of discovery at Timmins and Noranda, this drill campaign represents a unique opportunity for the discovery of world-class gold and base metal deposits within one of the largest and richest greenstone belts of the world.

On behalf of the Board of Directors

Tom Patton, President
Quaterra Resources Inc.

Donald J. Robinson, President

Yes,they should. This is a well run company & I think it's going to be a winner eventually. I admire that they haven't gone .com like so many of those small mining companies. This one will survive the shakeout going on & will be stronger for it.
