Stock's fall today due to the following news:

Monday March 31 10:08 AM EST

GTS Duratek Inc closes plant temporarily

COLUMBIA, Md., March 31 (Reuter) - GTS Duratek said Monday it had temporarily suspended the processing of radioactive waste at a melter plant after observing possible signs of wear on certain components.

Once the melter cools down, GTS said it would make an inspection to see if any repairs are necessary.

"The financial impact could be negligible, or it could be large enough to have an impact on our near-term earnings," it said. "It is impossible to predict until the assessment is complete."

GTS said the plant, at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River site, would take "several" days to cool down.

"The repairs could range from minimal repairs to replacing certain melter components, to possibly replacing the entire melter box," it said. "If corrective action results in a delay in completing the processing of radioactive waste, the company could incur contract losses on the Savannah River contract in 1997."

GTS said its $14 million contract obliges it to complete its processing of radioactive waste by October 1997.

The company converts radioactive and other hazardous waste into what it describes as environmentally safe forms.

I didn't start watching this stock until it rebounded from 4 7/8 and was at 5 3/8. Point of interest, one Market Maker (DMGL) stayed on the ask for the rest of the day. It seemed they were intent on keeping the ask from rising as they sold and sold without budging even when all transactions were buys. Then, in the P.M. when there were just one or two sells, the bid dropped immediately as low as 5 1/8.

This gave me the impression that the the price could move fairly dramatically to the upside if DMGL wasn't selling. Since there was significant buying all day long, and strong into the close, I will not be surprised to see strong buying tomorrow. DMGL has kept the price down today, but who knows about tomorrow. I'll be buying some more in the AM.

Peter I bought some at 5 3/8 and couldn't believe the price wouldn't go up. It could go pretty good tomorrow.

Guess most people know that the furnace was checked out last week and the potential problem turned out to be a non-problem. They should be back in operation shortly.

Price has been depressed recently due to problems with their main vitrification melter at Savannah River, SC. So, now would be a good time to get aboard if you have a long-term outlook.

Bill,
Thanks for your response. I had heard of an apparent hole in the melter.
Any additional info you might have i'm listening.
Thanks again.
