Reginald & ALL,
in my opinion, USSB is a clear candidate having completed its turnaround. Plus it's in a hot industry and commanding one of the lowest Price to sales ratios in the particula segment. Last quarter "real" loss (excluding special charges) was only 5 cents. This news seems to filter thru finally. Revenue growing continously should account for nice earnings from next quarter on. Also current positive earnings outlook only take BROADCASTING into account. The fact that a digital satellite provider like USSB could actually commence INTERNET services via satellite once two-way SAT becomes popular should give this fine stock additional earnings momentum.

Since I think that this company won't disappoint us, I do think that $20+ is a realistic target for the intermediate term (1 year) in USSB. I took my position Monday below $10.

Best wishes to all around here -

Crossy, exactly the reason I got in to this stock too. Here's the way I see things progressing further.

With the growing base of Internet users, more and more people will look for alternatives for high speed net connections. Some will choose Cable via companies such as @Home and others will choose Mini Dishes such as Hughers and Direct T.V.

The industry will be fractured for many years, then slowly but surely, Satellite Mini Dishes will become the major access to the net.

Some of the industry trends shaping this today are....

1. Local phone companies reluctance to spend the infrastructure dollars to keep up with the high bandwidth requirements.
2. The poor service and Monopolistic attitude of many cable companies.
3. The sheer numbers of new people logging onto the net every day.
4. The lack of available infrastructure in so many foreign countries.

With the advent of Internet Commerce, videophones, nearly free voice phones, rich multimedia, and simple email, the draw of the net will become overwhelming for the millions of people who have never seen it.

Mini Dishes will continue to improve technologically and have the answers people will want. Super high speed access, choices galore, and plenty of bandwidth. In another two years the Mini Dish industry will be practically giving away the hardware to sign people up for Net and Television access. In the mean time, more and more people will get fed up with there local cable companies, and switch to Mini Dishes--providing USSB the necessary revenue to continue positioning itself for the future.

Regards, Michael

Michael,
thanks for Your analysis. There's another factor, I just thought of yesterday. With so many governments' attempt at censuring free speech on the net, a SAT - based provider will turn out to be a powerful vehicle against ALMOST ANY means of censorship. In fact, I'm looking forward to people circumventing odd local "community" rules (pertaining p.e. in Australia, Britain etc.) by using a service out of reach for local jurisdiction..

The revenue curve for USSB looks very promising. Alsmost all of cable/SAT companies are still in the red because capital expenditure is huge at the beginning of their corporate life. However USSB already progressed to a point where they almost broke even last quarter (net loss on continuing operations = 0.05 $). This implied loss of 0.20 per Year sharply contrasts with historical numbers of $1.00 loss per share annually. Extrapolating this trend I expect solid profitability in 1998, with the potential of nicely leveraged gains in the future.

best wishes
CROSSY

Is a satelite feed for real time quotes clearly, hands down, superior to internet access via cable modem (ie-faster? more reliable) Or is this a subject where there's lots of room for discussion and opinions vary?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Mike, I would say there is definetly room for discussion about that topic. Today as we speak you can get cable modems with access speed in the 200-300bps range. Mini dish systems will give you access in the 200-400bps range.

Although today mini dishes are more expensive to set up, I believe the next couple of years you will see the prices change pretty dramatically-after all, the mini dish industry is relatively young.

Unfiltered competition and economies of scale are sure to bring the hardware down significantly in price.

The other possible scenario is that people like Bill Gates will buy all those lazy cable companies, and run them like a real competitive organization.

Thanks for the info. I currently have cable modem from Bellsouth but there have been real problems with staying connected and lately they just don't return my calls...

How reliable are the satelite dishes?

Thanks again.

Mike, first let me prefice this by saying I don't own a Satellite Net connection, I have just read and investigated how it works and it's price.

Here is what I have found.... When you buy a connection via Mini dishes you still need your local ISP. The way I understand it, you can surf wonderfully but if you want to email or download you need an ISP as a throughput.
So your service, I would guess, will depend on your ISP as well as your mini dish company.
You also need to buy the hardware, which can cost between 99.00 and 400.00 bucks, plus the mini dish net service fee 19.00, plus the local ISP around 19.00. Along with this since your getting a mini dish, you probably will want the Television services of about 29.00 a month, not counting USSB movie channels-add another 5-30 bucks.
The mini dishes come with spliters so you can run one coaxial to you television and one to your computer.
Unfortunatly if you split one of the coaxials to other televisions in your home they say the signal is degraded and it's not recommended.

As you can see a pretty expensive setup.

The hardware and technology is literally changing by the month though, so I would look for things to change rather quickly.

If anyone has these systems, they may be able to provide a better response or correct any misunderstandings I have.

Regards, Michael
