Due to a ceartain technical indicator I discovered years ago it is almost a lock that BBY at least goes back down to about 15 bucks.

Time to abandon your indicator.

We retested lows and now the market rally is upon us.

Unlike other retail areas like, say, home improvement, where you have Lowes or Home Depot or Menards, the electronics area is served by Best Buy, Circuit City, some computer retailers like CompUSA, and some office supply companies like Office Max. Best Buy has the greatest pure electronics appeal with Circuit City being second. Forget about Radio Shack or Electric Avenue or Audio King. Best Buy is big and visible.

OK, it will be subject to the same market conditions as all retail, but I think back to the mid and early 90's when electronics was a stereo system, a TV or cable system and PC's. Now it is much larger than that and demand is much broader. And Best Buy is an enormous US venue for manufacturers. I think Best Buy is in an advantageous position, but stuck in a bad and uncertain consumer environment.

I hope Q4 is good to Best Buy and our local economy.

I'm not so sure about that!! If BBY ratchets down earnings expectation for the fourth quarter it could easily trade down to about 15. Shoot, I sold a nice stock called PD today just to get ready for this possible situation. I've got a basis on my two buys of around 20.25, so either way I'm covered!!!

I've seen this happen many times before. They've shown this on CNBC several times, and each time they have never been
able to explain it. The buy usually occurs on an alternate exchange like Island. Of course I knew it was bogus!!!

What does the peanut gallery think about this dire news about MSFT?? Sounds like MSFT wants to pay a heckuva lot less for a new deal. Maybe Best Buy should talk to AOL, or Juno!!!!

Yup, and I saw on the news this evening a semi-truck that went through the wall of a Best Buy somewhere. Man, even the teamsters are against us!!!! When it rains, it pours!!

Some advice to Best Buy....don't hire. The place is already overrun with annoying eager salespeople ready to tell me they are not commissioned. The more effort I place in not looking like I need help, the more they hunt me down. Maybe I look suspicious trying to duck them. If, by chance, I have a question, it's way over their level of expertise. Maybe they can issue shoppers like myself a "Don't Bother Me, I Know You're Not Commissioned" badge at the front door.

I can go to CompUSA right down from Best Buy. Again rampant with sales people, but you have to hit them with a brick to get help...my kind of service.

When sales pick up for the holidays, put Best Buy sales people, already on the today's payroll, on the registers.

Best Buy is a lousy stock and lousier company. Their sales people cannot sell a dead skunk.

Almost 2 years ago, I bought a HP laptop from them with a 3-year service contract. Since then, it has been at the misnamed "service" center 4 times - over one month each period. In short, almost 20 percent of the time ... When I talk to their "service" people, they tell me not to take it "personal".

I am not supposed to consider my own money and property "personal" !!!

Whatever PR & Wall Street spinners say, Best Buy is going down ... six feet under. Given their "service" mentality, it is only a matter of time before it sings Chapter Eleven.

Hi Cody,

I don't think chapter 11 is anywhere in the cards. Best Buy is a well managed company and will continue to do well sales wise. In an extended economic downturn profits would be hurt due to their debt level and low margin business, but I don't see that happening long term.

Sorry about your laptop problem. Sounds like HP laptops aren't very reliable. I've had two Compaqs that I won't too happy with performance wise. One was returned for a refund, the current one is rittled with bad hard drive sectors. I wouldn't let Best Buy touch anything of mine in need of repair, unless they're shipping it back to the manufacturer which I'm sure wouldn't happen if it is out of the manufacturer's warranty period.
