While Gauzy has been reported to be collaborating with German auto manufacturer Daimler to create the first ever Dark RetroFit LC film for the automotive industry
If the reporter got this right -- and because Gauzy is already marketing Dark Retrofit LC Film -- I'm guessing that Daimler asked them to adapt it specifically for automotive use. Perhaps MB started Gauzy on the road to investing in SPD?

From JH in the March CC on Gauzy's (and Panasonic's) retail and automotive projection displays:
I’m happy to say that both companies, saw that they’re getting much, much better optics by combining PDLC with SPD. So, in the more recent demonstrations of Gauzy’s projection systems, including the one at the Corning booth at the CES and also Panasonic and some of their customers, private displays at CES, we saw much, much more advanced systems that were presented side by side with the existing systems that only use PDLC to show how much better the images when you combine it with SPD.
Note this was the 2018 CES, nine months before RFI announced Gauzy as a licensee and investor. Gauzy apparently used AGP's SPD.

JH also stated that Gauzy's wider SPD film should be available in the market next month. From comments I've read about the annual meeting, I gather that would be from the Stuttgart plant?

Yes, 1.2 meter from Tel Aviv is available now. The 1.8 from Stuttgart this summer, for some reason I also thought by July.

I am very sure German plant is up and running by the end of July but I think a little before.

A lot of people like baseball, LaPonte might have found a niche.
Don't understand the " very close " part tho :(
Thanks Auger

" SmartGlass was presented at the HOF’s Collection Care and Conservation Workshop where Co-Founder Mike LaPoint indicated his company was working toward making it more readily available, using the same technology.
“We’re very close to offering new VariGuard SmartGlass display cases and picture frames designed for private collectors. " "

<<Don't understand the " very close " part tho :(>>

tldr(no idea:))

SVV said they had a low cost laminator in place that would provide standard sizes for the SPD glass.

They didn't have a distribution channel yet, or at least, they hadn't settled on one.

The frames and mats and website is all relatively easy. Given the product is electrified, I don't know if they need a UL listing to sell retail etc.

I left the conversation with no idea if its very close the way it's commonly understood or 'soon', the way we understand the word. I also have no idea if the cost is like custom framing, so a couple hundred dollars for a normal sized frame or a lot more. Hope this helps:)
