KULR Technology passed a few milestones in the third quarter of 2018:

Financial Milestones:

For the three months ended September 30, 2018 and 2017, KULR generated $482,798 and $15,106 of revenues, an increase of $467,692. Our revenues during the three months ended September 30, 2018 consisted of sales of our component product, our Carbon Fiber Velvet (“CFV”) thermal management solution.

For the nine months ended September 30, 2018 and 2017, we generated $881,929 and $26,006 of revenues, an increase of $855,923. Our revenues during the nine months ended September 30, 2018 consisted of sales of our component product, our CFV thermal management solution, sales of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (“OEM”) product as well as certain research and development contract services.

Generally, we earn greater margins on revenue from products compared to revenue from services, so product mix plays an important part in our reported average margins for any period. Also, we are introducing new products at an early stage in our development cycle and the margins earned can vary significantly between period, customers and products due to the learning process, customer negotiating strengths, and product mix.

Continued focus on defense and aerospace sectors led to 182% increase in revenue in the 3 rd quarter of 2018 as compared to the 2 nd quarter of 2018; Deepened relationships with world-class OEM developmental partners in the EV and scooter markets; Secured design wins working with world class research laboratories such as Air Force Research Lab, the Naval Research Lab, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; and Continued customer engagement with a US government agency.

Lithium-ion batteries are the industry and consumer standard for portable power; billions of individual battery cells exist and billions more are planned for production. But lithium-ion batteries fail, sometimes with catastrophic results. Among the most dangerous types of cell failures are latent manufacturing defects or stress-related failures related to fatigue, damage, over-cycling or rapid charging and discharging. In many cases, when a single cell in a multi-cell pack fails, for any reason, the fire and heat trigger neighboring cells to also fail in a chain reaction known as thermal runaway propagation.

The Company's TRS is a sleeve-like shield that surrounds and separates individual cells in multi-cell packs and contains KULR's proprietary carbon fiber fabric and a liquid. The unique combination and configuration of the shield passively draws intense heat of cell failures away from nearby cells while dousing the failed area in a cooling and fire-prevention liquid. In tests conducted by NASA, prototypes of the KULR TRS were shown to keep the temperature of neighboring cells well below their failure temperature of 130 Celsius, while a failed cell surpassed 1,000 Celsius

Huge Investments in EV market in next 5 to 10 years

A Reuters analysis of 29 global automakers found that they are investing at least $300 billion in electric vehicles, with more than 45 percent of that earmarked for China.

Global automakers are planning an unprecedented level of spending to develop and procure batteries and electric vehicles over the next five to 10 years, with a significant portion of their budgets targeted at China, according to a Reuters analysis of public data released by those companies.

Automakers’ plans to spend at least $300 billion on EVs are driven largely by environmental concerns and government policy, and supported by rapid technological advances that have improved battery cost, range and charging time. The accelerated rate of industry spending — much of it led by Germany’s Volkswagen — is greater than the economies of Egypt or Chile.

The ISC was developed in 2015 by researchers at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and NASA and reliably creates failures in lithium-ion battery cells in controlled, laboratory conditions. The failures triggered by the ISC replicate cell failures that, although rare, can happen in a wide variety of commercial and consumer battery uses. By replicating cell failures, designers and researchers can study methods and systems to reduce battery failures as well as design systems to mitigate their consequences.

As the exclusive provider of the ISC, KULR will deliver ISC devices beginning in Q2 of 2019. Further details of the arrangement were not released but company leaders highlighted the importance of this agreement and possible advancements of battery safety.
