AMOC shutdown is nearly entering the race - with volcanoes, solar flares/CMEs and the fragility of the food system - for being the "event" that brings the house down. An AMOC shutdown would be a bit sudden from here with a Beaufort Gyre release...which is pending.
There's probably something else out there in the race too. I just haven't seen it yet. I'll give it to within 30 months for a "winner" to appear out of the pack.

The last two weeks have seen a very large number of extensive high wind events globally. I wonder if there are corresponding "doldrum" events and if a systemic change is occurring. The longer it goes on, the more likely it's systemic. I could list more than 20 from everywhere. The 2020 Iowa derecho also comes to mind.
