The mainstream media is now bringing out the language "solar minimum". The goal seems to be damage control due to the reality of global temperatures being noticeably cooler lately. Especially in the high media focus, high population metroplexes around the world.

Locusts in India hit the mainstream;

"Crops across much of India have been devastated by swarms of locusts. Numbers of the insects are at their highest for a quarter of a century, and swarms have also struck in the Middle East and east Africa."

Well, ( 1139 ) although Ben has a bit of pedantism about some kind of human created and thus arbitrary definition of when exactly does a GSM officially begin, (I say it begins when it's getting a little obvious here on Earth) he has now stated that the magnetosphere situation is a
"MAGNETIC DISASTER"
I agree there.

as the magnetic field collapses, has anyone seen any papers or reports on how quickly and how much of the atmosphere will be blown away by the solar wind? Are there any proxies that might give us an indication and allow an estimate to be made?

By the time atmospheric stripping becomes a problem, it'll be down there around 38th in the order of appearance of things with fatal consequences.
It may be possible to get to that point alive...but I wouldn't hold my breath.
90% magnetosphere loss would be the critical point.
