Wednesday night and Thanksgiving... All the guidance continues to advertise an extremely anomalous bitterly cold airmass for this time of year...Wednesday night into Thanksgiving. In fact...both the GEFS/NAEFS show the extreme nature of this bitter cold falling outside the CFSR climatology in terms of 850 mb temperatures. Basically that means that these models have never forecasted an airmass that cold at 850 mb based on reanalysis. 850T are expected to fall to between -20C and -24C...which will result in bitterly cold temperatures. Low temperatures should plunge into the single digits across portions of the interior with lower to middle teens on the coastal plain. Highs on Thanksgiving will remain in the middle to upper teens across portions of the interior high terrain to between 20 and 25 on the coastal plain. This will be accompanied by northwest wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph resulting in bitter cold wind chills of 0 to 10 below zero Thanksgiving morning for much of the region! forecast.weather.gov

The key will be in watching to see if the out-of-phase movement of the solar dynamos bear out.. In previous minimums, they generally travel in sympathetic directions.. It's the out of phase separation that is new to solar observations..

Thursday - The Polar Vortex stomps on northeast North America and Siberia. The Polar 2-step. Down-rushing cold air funnels and hits Earth's surface and spreads out from the footprints.

NOAA is apparently clueless when it comes to forecasting. Even from only two weeks in advance.

They have to stick with warm, warm, warm though...they've painted themselves into a global warming corner.

I wonder if they'll be able to adjust by April 2019. For the mid and eastern US it won't be "April showers..."
It'll be April snows bring May....snow.
NOAA, I would bet, will call for "the hottest April ever" or something similar.

Last Winter hung in until just before May for much of the country (and Canada). Then it started again in Nov.
That left just over 5 months to squeeze in SpringSummerFall.

Meteorological Summer begins next week in the Southern Hemisphere. S U M M E R

When Winter started early there, it was a big clue as to what to expect for the Northern Hemisphere (NH). During the time between then and now, the Sun's activity continued to weaken. Now as Winter begins very early in the NH that additional weakness has shown itself in a sweeping cascade of record low temperatures.

When it comes time for Summer to begin again in the NH, expect snow in many northern areas.

We're in the first month of a 7 month winter. Stay healthy, you're going to need it.

A glimpse of 2020 Winter courtesy of a Sony ad:

Could be somewhere like....Springfield Ohio 39°55'37N - where one last global warming fantasist remains >gg<.

I first discussed this back in April. People here probably thought I was crazy back then.
