Amazon rolls out it's Chatbot Q
The shopping and cloud giant announced that its enterprise-focused generative AI will become generally available this week, with separate versions aimed at developers and businesses for a price of around $20 per month for the “pro” tiers.

The announcement came ahead of an AI-heavy earnings call in which a strong showing from the company’s AWS division helped power better-than-expected quarterly results.

The update brings GPT-4 to everyone, including OpenAI’s free users, technology chief Mira Murati said in a livestreamed event. She added that the new model, GPT-4o, is “much faster,” with improved capabilities in text, video and audio. OpenAI said it eventually plans to allow users to video chat with ChatGPT.

“This is the first time that we are really making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use,” Murati said.

Arvind Narayanan:
AI scaling — it's going to run out; the question is when. I think more likely than not, it already has.

There are 2 main barriers to continued scaling. One is data. It's possible that companies have already run out of high-quality data, and that that's why the flagship models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google all have strikingly similar performance (that hasn't improved in > 1y)

The 2nd, and IMO bigger barrier to scaling is that beyond a point, scale might lead to better models in the sense of perplexity (next word prediction) but might not lead to downstream improvements (new emergent capabilities).
