It turns out that Trump knew he had COVID at the first presidential debate, but lied about it. And then covered it up.
by TIM MILLER The Bulwark DECEMBER 1, 2021 2:35 PM
Of all the insane moments from 2020, this one still stands out: The former president of the United States knowingly and intentionally exposed his opponent to a deadly virus and covered it up to protect his re-election campaign.
Oh, you’d forgotten about that?
In October 2020 I wrote a story laying out the inconsistencies and evasions coming from the White House concerning the timeline of Trump’s COVID infection, especially as it related to his September 29, 2020 debate with Joe Biden. You can revisit it here, if you want the gory details.
A forthcoming book by Trump’s own chief of staff now reportedly indicates that Trump did, in fact, know that he had COVID when he showed up to the September 29 debate. From the Guardian:
Donald Trump tested positive for Covid-19 three days before his first debate against Joe Biden, the former president’s fourth and last chief of staff has revealed in a new book.
Mark Meadows also writes that though he knew each candidate was required “to test negative for the virus within seventy two hours of the start time … Nothing was going to stop from going out there.”
The timeline as laid out by Meadows indicates that Trump tested positive for COVID three days before that debate, then followed up with a second negative test, then quit taking tests altogether so that he wouldn’t be prevented from debating.
Trump has kinda sorta disputed this version of events via fax, though it’s unclear why his own former chief of staff, a toadying supplicant, would be peddling fake news. It seems much more likely that Trump is using weasel words and Meadows is such a moron that he thought relaying this story made his old boss look like a Strong Fighting Man for all the poorly endowed super fans in need of a big daddy. Trump is so alpha that he beat Sleepy Joe in a debate while he had COVID!
The Meadows claim that Trump had tested positive for COVID pre-debate is further supported by the following facts:
-- Two days after the test, Trump and Pence held a joint event during which they were unusually distant from one another
-- Trump refused to take the required COVID test at the debate site, claiming that he had arrived too late to take a test.
-- The White House refused to answer whether it had submitted negative tests to the Cleveland Clinic as required by debate organizers.
-- During an onanistic post-election interview with the Trump fluffer-in-chief Mollie Hemingway, the former president only refused to answer one of her questions: Whether he had COVID during the first debate.
These are all the actions of someone who knew he had COVID and wanted to debate anyway. Just as Meadows wrote.
Or, to reframe the episode just slightly: One sick old man decided to risk getting his old man opponent sick, too, and lied in order to do it.
Biden at age 77 was in the prime risk category for COVID-19, Trump spent an entire evening screaming and spittling in his general direction—remember, this was that debate—indoors, from a few feet away, without a mask.
Trump risked other people’s lives because he needed to get off on the applause that he expected after schlonging Biden (whoops). But also in order to wriggle out of the consequences of his months long refusal to take reasonable precautions regarding COVID, because he was intent on downplaying the virus. And then he lied about it and tried to coverup his lies in the aftermath.
Trump was lucky that he didn’t become “ one of the diers.” As a country we were similarly lucky that this sitting president did not infect and kill his political rival with his carelessness. Donald Trump’s pathological megalomania put us in the position where that was possible and the only reason the country didn’t have to face the unrest that would result from such a horror was luck.
Trump was the chaos candidate. Some people hoped that the weight of the presidency would make him more responsible. It did not. Others hoped that, despite his erratic nature, the country might escape calamity during his watch. We did not. If private citizen Donald Trump wanted to risk his own life playing COVID roulette, that’s his call, though I’d be pretty damn pissed if he had put my grandmother at risk the way he did Biden and others.
As president he risked the lives of everyone in America. And it turned out that he was perfectly willing to risk Joe Biden’s life, too.

Alex Henderson December 02, 2021
In Michigan, a 15-year-old suspect has been charged with murder following a Tuesday, November 30 shooting at a high school in the midwestern state. The suspect’s mother, according to The Independent, was a Donald Trump supporter who praised the former president as being supportive of gun owners.
The mother, 43-year-old Jennifer Crumbley, wrote an open letter to Trump on her blog on November 11, 2016 — after Trump had defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election — and said, “As a female and a Realtor, thank you for allowing my right to bear arms. Allowing me to be protected if I show a home to someone with bad intentions. Thank you for respecting that Amendment.”
The November 30 attack left four people dead and others seriously wounded others at the high school. The 15-year-old suspect, the Independent reports, allegedly used a semi-automatic handgun that was legally purchased by his father, James Crumbley, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard in Michigan.
Bouchard, on December 1, said that administrators at the high school flagged the teenager for “behavior in the classroom they felt was concerning.”
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald alleges that the attack was premeditated. McDonald told reporters, “There is a mountain of digital evidence — videotape, social media, all digital evidence possible — and it absolutely, we are confident that we can show it was premeditation.”
The teenager, at his arraignment, pleaded “not guilty” to the charges he is facing.
In her November 11, 2016 open letter to Trump, Jennifer Crumbley stressed that she didn’t consider herself a card-carrying Republican but had become receptive to his MAGA message.
Crumbley wrote, “You see Mr. Trump I can go on and on, in fact I used to think Democrat. I don’t believe in God and Im quite opposite of your typical ‘republican.’ But now I am 38 years old. I have a family. My husband and I both work full time jobs. I have watched our insurance premiums double. I cannot afford to buy into this Obamacare. For my family its over $600 a month with deductibles. We bust our ass Mr. Trump. I pay taxes, my husband pays his child support, I donate to charities.. We are good fucking Americans that cannot get ahead. And what makes me sick, is people that come over here from other countries and get free everything.”
The Michigan resident, who described herself as “a hard working Middle Class Law Abiding Citizen who is sick of getting fucked in the ass,” went on to tell the then-president-elect, “I have NEVER had this much belief in one person, and you are it.”

David Edwards December 02, 2021
President Donald Trump suggested that Uighurs "like" being in Chinese concentration camps, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) revealed on Thursday.
The Speaker made the allegation after a reporter asked if the House of Representatives would vote on a Senate bill designed to prevent forced labor in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
"I take second place to no one in Congress in my criticism of China's human rights record," Pelosi said. "I've even spoken to President Trump when he was at G20 in Japan a few years ago. I said, 'Will you go up to the president of China and tell him that on the House and in the Senate, Democrats and Republicans have very serious concerns about what President Xi is doing to the Uighurs?'"
"The next day called me and said, 'I talked to the president and he says the Uighurs like being in those camps,'" she recalled. "That's what autocrats say."

From: Glenn Petersen | 12/2/2021 2:08:02 PM | | | | Mark Meadows Agrees With Trump That His New Book Is ‘Fake News’
BENDING THE KNEE
Hours after Trump griped it was “fake news” that he tested positive for COVID before his Biden debate, Meadows obsequiously said his old boss was “right.”
Justin Baragona Media Reporter The Daily Beast Updated Dec. 02, 2021 11:48AM ET Published Dec. 01, 2021 11:43PM ET
Former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows went on Newsmax on Wednesday night and agreed with his old boss that his new book is “fake news.”
Ahead of next week’s release of his upcoming memoir, titled The Chief’s Chief, the Guardian reported that the ex-Trump official writes in its page that former President Donald Trump first tested positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 26—three days before his first debate with Joe Biden.
Trump (somewhat) denied Meadows’ account, claiming he “did not have COVID” before or during the debate last year. In response, on Wednesday evening, Meadows sheepishly agreed with Trump’s assessment of the reporting tied to his book.
“I believe the president said it’s fake news. What’s the story here?” Newsmax anchor Rob Schmitt asked, prompting Meadows to answer: “Well, the president’s right, it’s fake news.”
The ex-Trump official insisted that in his upcoming book, he “actually” outlined how Trump had a “false positive” but then got two subsequent tests that “showed he didn’t have COVID during the debate.”
Meadows added: “And yet, you know the way that the media wants to spin it is certainly to be as negative about Donald Trump as they possibly can while giving Joe Biden a pass.”
However, Meadows wrote in his book that the ex-president scored a negative from a rapid antigen test, which is highly flawed, after testing positive. And in reality, Trump wasn’t tested before the debate because he arrived late to the event. Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, the moderator of that debate, later acknowledged there was an “ honor system” for the two candidates to arrive having already tested negative.
Even the reliably pro-Trump Newsmax anchor seemed a bit skeptical of Meadows’ explanation. “The timing is interesting, though, you have to admit. I mean, wasn’t it just a week later they choppered him to Walter Reed and he was very sick?” Schmitt asked.
Seemingly unprepared for a mild challenging from Newsmax, Meadows struggled to give a coherent response.
“Yeah, listen, any time we look at things, and we look at tests, and we look at what happened, It’s, it’s certainly, that’s what I outlined in the book,“ he rambled. “And... talk about that Walter Reed visit. But there are a lot of great stories in the book.”
News of Trump’s previously unreported positive COVID-19 test sparked renewed scrutiny over the former administration's careless and reckless handling of coronavirus protocols.
After being hospitalized for the virus, Trump later suggested he caught it from Gold Star families at a White House event he held one day after the initial positive test.
Meadows also recounted in the book that the White House doctor informed him of the positive COVID-19 result as Trump was heading to a Pennsylvania rally—and after the then-president had attended the “ superspreader” event celebrating Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation.
