Thank you Josh! You are doing what has been difficult for me: sharing your feelings.

Joyce and I met at Texas Instruments, but after TI sold its defense group I went to work for another company as part of the sale. However I still worked with dozens of people that knew Joyce pretty well and it was easy to talk to them about Joyce because they knew her. Honestly what I miss most with retirement is losing contact with many people that knew my wife.

Thanks, I'll give a little background on that poem. Joyce and I married in 1980 after being together a few years and our son and daughter were both born in December of the years 1984 and 1986.

In the summer of 1989, I came home from work and there was a letter on the kitchen counter and my wife and children were gone. Joyce had gotten an apartment and a lawyer and had me served divorce papers a few days later.

The situation was very serious and some of my friends in that photo talked to Joyce and all reported back that Joyce didn't love me anymore and my marriage was over.

I refused to believe that and wrote that poem. Quite literally the poem saved our marriage and we even renewed our wedding vows in church.

The poem was very special for both of us, but of course it took on a whole new meaning for me after Joyce passed from a sudden heart attack while at work in 2004.

I've always considered the poem as a gift and it has been a comfort for me in the two hardest times of my life.

The poem was read at her funeral and it will be read at mine someday.

A comment I wanted to make... Joyce and I were together about 7 years before our son was born. What husbands too often don't realize is the strain young children put on mothers and don't help as much as they should. We were lucky and were able to get past the difficult preschool years, but husbands are well advised to not neglect doing their part like I did. If any of you have a son starting a family, make sure he knows this.

Best for All,
Josh

Wynn was on my right in the previous photo and isn't in this one, but is an equal member of our group.
