I also have a number of other apps including Smithsonian, Nat Geo and others. Live streaming news from a Sky TV and France 24. I love my Roku. Love it also that my cable bill is $150 less now that I have cut the cord. |

| To: Stan who wrote (1606) | 11/28/2015 3:34:51 AM | | From: Siber | | | | I replaced my Vizio a couple of years ago after only a year and a bit. The picture quality was excellent, the sound quality was the worst I've ever experienced. It hurt my ears and I couldn't figure out how to attach my speakers to it. I couldn't stand it and hated to replace a relatively new TV simply because of ear-piercing sound.
I replaced it with an LG. The LG has a great picture, super great sound at any volume, and several features to fiddle with to get it exactly to my liking. Not a smart TV, though. |

| From: Stan | 11/28/2015 8:28:50 AM | | | | | | Thanks everyone for your help. You have me very intrigued now to look into a non-smart TV with Roku. I'll also be asking about sound quality in the questions sections on Amazon. I had a TV a few years ago that had poor sound options - disappointing.
And, Siber, you need an amplifier box to connect external speakers for a TV. Most TVs don't have enough power to drive external speakers on their own. |

Something like this: amazon.com
I've heard sound bars are a good option:

I'm not sold on Smart TV's. With options like Roku you have a great selection of add-on content. |

| To: Stan who wrote (1614) | 11/29/2015 6:11:11 PM | | From: Siber | | | | | I already have a spaghetti factory behind my TV. I don't think I need to add a device to hook into the TV to hook into the speakers that hook into...whatever. Whew. This is exhausting. Thankfully, my newer TV has good sound. |

| To: Siber who wrote (1618) | 11/29/2015 6:38:19 PM | | From: Alan Smithee | | | | Thus far, I'm doing pretty well several weeks into my cutting the "cable cord." My bill has gone down about $135 (I still have cable for Internet. It's the only game in town for Internet at this point).
I have an over the air antenna hooked up to one TV for the alphabet networks, local news and football. Watching the Seahawks right now, in fact. We watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and other content on the Roku. If I want an international news fox, I can get SkyNews and France24 on the Roku. I still am able to get a FoxNews fix on the iPad using the FoxNews Go app (using my daughter's cable login).
I couldn't be more pleased. |
