Shouldn’t SI jump in here to help out beyond just shortening his hours? |

Just pointing out that SI has always promoted itself as a “community” and there is now a rather instrumental part of this community who needs help.
I own / am part of a number of businesses. I would never allow a key employee to resort to begging for money while he is still trying to do his job. |

If you want to help someone, help them. If not, how about instead of saying why you chose not to, you instead go help someone else? And when someone is afflicted with a terminal illness, it's not about money any more. It's about compassion. It's about making them feel happy that their life touched your life in some positive way.
BTW, there is no debate to be had here. You expressed your opinion. I expressed mine. I'm moving on and I hope you do as well.
