Compare that to the CPU in-and-out of stock activity in the same time frame (since yesterday morning):

Perhaps this is the problem:

The lead time for production of 7nm chips at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has extended to nearly six months from the previous two months because of strong demand, according to industry sources.

Ouch. That could be a problem. I was guessing 3 months.

Hopefully AMD's order are well advanced in that pipeline having been wisely placed months ago. TWT I guess...

Two die and some redundancy. If Cascade Lake AP tops out at 56 cores on 14+++ (or whatever +'s it is now) then a 10nm part should be able to hit 82 cores on two die with a few spare die on each chip to help out with yield.

I was thinking along the same lines, but 41 is hard to factor. At first, I was thinking that maybe they were taking their new 10 core design, and gluing together 4 of them with an IO die (but, an IO die is not a core). And then connecting 2 of them together in a package.

I don't think they will get over 18 cores be die with 10nm+ Ice Lake SP, due to yield issues. Higher core counts per die are with Cooper Lake on 14+++nm, so they can't extend above 28 cores per die with that.

Even 42 and 44 are hard to factor (into rows and columns). 48 would mean they are expecting a lot of failing cores.

I *think* the sleigh ride in AMD is about to start.

Let's hope it's another part of a fun ride.

In a little less than 2 weeks, we should have the Ryzen 3950X launch.
In a little more than 2 weeks we will find out if MS is adding AMD to Surface laptops (15").

In about 5 weeks, we have the Q3 ER. Will Q4 guidance hold?

Sometime in Oct or Nov, I expect the Threadripper 3 launch, with an enhanced HEDT line and a higher end Workstation line. And, I have an outside hope of an MS Workstation announcement using Threadripper 3.
