From: Savant | 10/8/2024 4:41:07 PM | | | | Three clean energy and transport companies – Octopus Energy, Uber, and BYD – have launched an initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among UK Uber drivers.
The partnership, unveiled at Uber’s annual climate event, Go Get Zero, will offer what is being described as the country’s cheapest EV charging bundle.
Under the new scheme, Octopus Energy will install up to 1,000 free home chargers for Uber drivers who purchase a BYD electric vehicle and sign up for the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, a specialist energy plan for EV owners. This tariff will allow drivers to charge their vehicles for as little as 2p per mile, making it approximately six times cheaper than running a petrol-powered car. When considering the free home charger and savings from charging, the cost of operating an EV could be up to ten times lower than a petrol car for Uber drivers.
