The congressional republicans should be punished with overwhelming losses in the next election. If they could just get past this, they can have whatever they want in the debt ceiling fight - from a high ground. Now they look like intransigent kooks.

Agreed, but the House is determined to show fiscal restraint, which is what everyone wants to see. Pass this bill and save the spending cuts for the debate on the debt ceiling. That's where the GOP has more leverage.

I don't think we'll see this market get slammed for very long, if at all... it looks pretty buoyant considering the recovery rally on Friday with only just a slight whiff of any agreement... this market could go down again tomorrow, but I think it really wants to go higher...
