Richard Nixon, in one of the conversations about Watergate in the Oval Office, is heard on the tape saying the defendants have to be able to swear on a "stack of bibles" that they didn't have any knowledge of White House involvement. What's amusing is that Nixon himself when he took the presidential oath of office in 1969 did so literally on a "stack of bibles."

You'll notice there are 2 bibles his hand is placed on.

Then of course there's Nixon the sportsman:

Richard Nixon told the Director of the FBI Patrick Gray in front of his senior aide John Ehrlichman, "I gotta have a relationship here where you go out and do something and deny on a stack of Bibles.”

--------------------------

The most incriminating tape was that of June 23, 1972, soon after the break-in. When Nixon was told that the money for the break-in group came from the CRP, he proposed that those who had donated it should simply lie. He agreed that it was best to call off the FBI by telling it that the break-in was a “CIA thing.” Nixon’s advice was: “Play it tough. That’s the way they play it and that’s the way we are going to play it.” More than anything else, this “smoking-gun” tape, according to Nixon himself, induced him to resign. At one point, Nixon said to Patrick Gray: “I gotta have a relationship here where you go out and do something and deny on a stack of Bibles.”

Check out this video of Linda Ronstadt in 1970. While watching it think of her singing to Richard Nixon:

I thought this would be of interest since Ericsson is one of the largest CDMA infrastructure suppliers:

Ericsson Misses Estimates as Global Network Sales Decline

bloomberg.com

- "Revenue dropped 8 percent to 48 billion kronor, missing the 50.8 billion-kronor average estimate of 30 analysts."

- "Ericsson’s equipment business suffered as operators held back on spending and merged networks to cut costs. The unit’s sales declined 12 percent, with revenue in India, China and southeast Asia falling the most."

Gee, Ericsson is declining, Nokia acquired Motorola's network business, what next?

What did I say?

CDG released the latest CDMA subscriber figures as of June 2010.

Latin America has declined AGAIN to 32.8 million subscribers from a peak of 70.4 million subscribers.

Africa also declined by one million subscribers.

Good thing for China.

Hey!

When is the CDG going to publish the CDMA subscriber figures for the 3rd quarter of 2010? It's almost 7 months since the end of the 3rd quarter and still there are no subscriber figures.

The CDG released 3Q figures for 2010.

No surprises.

Latin America continues to decline. Something new: Africa declined as well.

I see the lemmings are bidding up QCOM -- again.

Curious as to the source of this new bullishness, I asked myself: could it be CDMA subscriber growth has a turned a corner? After all, for Qualcomm to have increasing earnings year after year after year, there have to be more and more CDMA subscribers added EVERY YEAR. Otherwise, even with the replacement market, QCOM earnings will struggle to meet expectations.

Here are the annual increases in CDMA subscribers since September 2000:

9/00 - 9/01: 32 million
9/01 - 9/02: 31.5
9/02 - 9/03: 39
9/03 - 9/04: 52.5
9/04 - 9/05: 59
9/05 - 9/06: 68
9/06 - 9/07: 67.5
9/07 - 9/08: 53.5
9/08 - 9/09: 36
9/09 - 9/10: 53.5

Wow! Could it be true that CDMA subscriber growth reached a maximum in the period 9/05 to 9/06??

Gee, usually when more networks are deployed, subscriber growth takes off. But not here.

Hmmmmmm.
