From: veritas501 | 6/5/2011 6:18:03 PM | | | | Well, the CDG has finally come clean on CDMA subscriber figures.
The year over year increase in CDMA subscribers is 9.28% or 49 million.
Latin America declined again. North America increased by just 9.5 million subscribers, the smallest increase since December 1997. Africa declined too.

From Wired Magazine:
Black-and-white e-readers are limiting while full color LCD displays such as those in tablets like the iPad can be power hungry and tough on the eyes. That’s why Qualcomm is betting that a new hybrid device that bridge the two worlds could be in the hands of consumers early next year....With Mirasol, Qualcomm is hoping it can give companies such as Amazon that are reportedly looking beyond black-and-white e-readers an attractive option....A “major client has already started the design-in process,” using Mirasol, says DigiTimes.

From Engadget:
Our Qualcomm rep personally views dedicated e-readers as merely a "head fake," and that the category isn't going to be around for long -- which seems to imply that he sees Mirasol being used for a lot more than thumbing through a virtual novel or magazine.

To: veritas501 who wrote (112) | 10/29/2012 2:19:54 AM | From: veritas501 | | | Well, after another 8 months of diligent searching, I've found a Mirasol handheld -- emphasis on "a" because there is only one for sale on Amazon, and not by Amazon itself. It's been given a rating of 3.5 stars by its users.
Doesn't look like Mirasol will be taking the world by storm. |

I think QCOM did pretty well this quarter even with their mistake on Mirasol. It's a good thing that they have $26B (or something like that) on the books when they make a $1B mistake. When you swing for the fences you are bound to strike out from time to time. At least they are in the game. It seems you prefer to be an umpire though. |

What would you have people do on an investment discussion forum? I'm really interested. |

From: veritas501 | 1/6/2013 7:25:16 AM | | | | Speaking of the Titanic, anyone remember Bernie Ebbers and Worldcom?
Some highlights:
- "It's all over. Bernard Ebbers of WorldCom has won," cyber evangelist George Gilder gleefully announced to the world's telco titans back in October 1997. The upstart had bounded audaciously past GTE and BT to hand in the triumphant bid for MCI. But the victory was symbolic of something far greater than a gutsy acquisition of a company three times the size of one's own. Bernie was beating the Bells at their own game.

- Federal authorities indicted Ebbers with security fraud and conspiracy charges on March 2, 2004. An amendment to the indictment on May 25, 2004 increased the list of charges to nine felonies: one count each of conspiracy and securities fraud, and seven counts of filing false statements with securities regulators. Ebbers was found guilty of all charges on March 15, 2005.... On July 13, 2005, federal judge Barbara S. Jones, of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York in Manhattan, sentenced Ebbers to twenty-five years in a federal prison in Louisiana.... Ebbers self-reported to Oakdale Federal Correctional Institution in Oakdale, Louisiana on September 26, 2006, driving himself to the prison in his Mercedes.... The earliest date he can be released is in July 2028, at which time he will be 87 years old.
