They have a new Justified series coming out. It's going to be on FX and Hulu if I heard correctly.

I enjoy these observations about modern films vs. those of the pre-'70s.

There were some pretty good movies in the 70s, Barry Lyndon comes to mind. They hadn't gotten around to the rapid fire roller coaster ride style pacing yet. Compare the original Getaway with the lame 90s remake.

I like movies but I don't care for Hollywood much. I recently subscribed to the Criterion channel, lots of good indie stuff there. They have the entire Hal Hartley collection.

Jim Jarmusch is another favorite. His first movie is on Criterion, another later one is on Amazon Prime. The rest appear to be on Max. It pains me, but I may be subscribing to Max for a little while.

It's not just the constant close-ups and other tension-creating techniques, but the movies have gotten darker (WRT to lighting, that is) and actors mumble so many of their lines it makes you turn on CC.

I saw that Criterion has Duel with Dennis Weaver, the best TV movie of the week I can remember.

I'll be checking out the Dennis Weaver movie, thanks.

One of my favorite movies is On the Waterfront. I don't see it available for streaming anywhere, but there is this. I assume the Criterion Collection are the same people who run the Criterion Channel. There is a colorful backstory about the making of the movie, the history is told on these DVDs and Blue Rays they sell. Worth the price just to get the extra stuff they include.
