Florida planned a 4 p.m. news conference Thursday to formally announce Donovan's decision. Juniors Corey Brewer, Taurean Green, Al Horford and Joakim Noah also were to be there, announcing whether they are staying in school or turning pro.
I may tear myself away from the Masters to catch that. |

Donovan staying at FloridaAssociated Press GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Billy Donovan wanted to stay. His star players knew it was time to go.
Donovan spurned a chance to return to Kentucky and take over the tradition-rich program, saying Thursday he hopes to build the same in Gainesville.
He'll have to do it without Corey Brewer, Taurean Green, Al Horford and Joakim Noah. The four juniors will enter the NBA draft, saying they have accomplished all they could at Florida.

That's a real shame. In my opinion, none of the four is NBA-ready. None of them comes even close to guys like Michael Jordan, LeBron and many of the other players that came out early. That's not to say that they won't make it in the pros; merely that (in my opinion) they'd be better off playing their senior year at Florida and then taking their chances in the NBA draft. I suspect that the usual suspect reasons (fear of permanent injuries, fear of failure to repeat current successes, a perceived pressing need for big money, etcetera) lie at the roots of their collective decision.

I think Brewer and Horford are pretty close to ready and will make good pros. Not sure about Noah. Green could have definitely used another year. Can't say I blame any of them for taking the money and running, though. |
