jim,

i lived in the southern part of heaven for 6 years, so i follow carolina pretty closely. i agree with you; they didn't seem very impressive til the last 1/2 last nite. they play soft and within a system. big tough guys, eric williams on wake and shelden williams on duke, have given them trouble. sean may gets a lot of rebounds through position, but he doesn't jump very well, if at all. however, he has seemed a lot tougher at times in the tourney. i didn't realize how good felton is.

i haven't seen illinois too much.

i think illinois will win: better coached and tougher.

i believe the key will be that deron williams is fast enough to stay with and control felton so that carolina's rhythm will be upset.

plus, guys named "williams" give carolina trouble.

Well we are down to the last game.
No.1 vs No.2

Illinois has had a great year. UNC has great talent, but sometimes does not bring it to the gym.

I live in NC, wife is a UNC grad, but her father a MD @ Duke his entire medical career, so I am a avid ACC fan. (Family has tickets @ Cameron}

My predictions for tonite game:

If UNC bring their "A" game, they will win regardless of what Illinois does.

If UNC has a so so game Illinois will win.

Have yet to see Illinois have a bad game this year, even in their loss.

Carolina by 3 in a close game.

By the way, I picked Duke to win it all, so what do I know?

Half time,,,40-27
So far UNC brought their A game. Amazing what a hand in the face can do to a team that relies on 3 pointers.

Illinois' 3-point shot deserted it at the wrong time and the Tar Heels are the champs. Congratulations to them, and to Jeff for taking the pool.

Yes, they lived by the 3 and missed at the end. Still they were a great team but had to come back from 15.

Congratulations the Jeff and everyone who had Carolina. They saw something in the team long before a lot of us did. Something that didn't become apparent to me until the second half of the Michigan State game.

Brad Doherty recruited most of them but it took Roy Williams to get them to play like a team. Still Doherty must be wondering what could have been.

The game seemed to have everything: spurts, runs, lead changes, a dramatic comeback, etc. When this game is dissected, which games of this magnitude always are, I think people will question why it seemed IL diagrammed 3-point plays in the final minute and change only down a two. IL did have some good looks, but threes are still low percentage plays.

In any event, hats off to Roy Williams for finally capping a storied career. He really handled himself well when asked ad nauseum how it felt to never win the big one and now will be remembered as nothing but a winner.

- Jeff
