I believe the Fed intended to raise the rates but certain government officials interfered with the Fed doing so. We are seeing the results of not acting soon enough. This is not to say that raising the rates would have stopped inflation but the rate of inflation should have been more muted than it is at present.
I could be way off base, my grasp of monetary policy is quite basic but at times the solution and evidence to a problem are simple and basic as they appear. |

Lots of words and very little action last year by Powell. Look at the symbolic QE tapering of 15B on 120B per month. After all the noise made, it is so shy. Too much free money and too low rates. |

also aware that there was talk or hints about the rates going up. ( concerns about inflation)
and there is record of government folks way up at the top making noise about not raising the rate. (for the elite there is no concern about inflation)
as a result of not raising the rates we now have inflation. I think there would be inflation with raised rates but not this high.
