Not too long ago read a book about the later phases of the Roman Republic. It was not unusual for big politicians to cultivate mobs, and use them from time to time, for riots, attacks against opponents, etc. One would think an elderly female American pol like Maxine would make an unlikely rabble rouser mob leader... but, surprise, surprise... And she's far from being the only one.
