Bad News, and Good POWERLINE By John President Bush announced a $17 billion bridge loan to GM and Chrysler today, out of TARP funds, something he vowed not to do just weeks ago. He said the bridge loans are necessary to avoid a "disorderly bankruptcy." I still don't understand why a bankruptcy, which I think is the only viable way to keep the American automakers in business, should be "disorderly." What's mostly going on here, I think, is that Bush can't stand the thought of two of the automakers going bankrupt during the last 30 days of his administration. He's kicked the can to Barack Obama, and at least the bankruptcies won't happen on his watch. That's the bad news. The good news, for Republicans at least, is Governor Blagojevich's vow to "fight...fight...fight" since he has done nothing wrong. Well, it makes sense for him to fight; there is a room reserved for him in a federal penitentiary. For us Republicans, the prospect of Blago fighting on for months to come is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise bleak landscape.

if it was just a change in tax policy why did england and other countries experience the same housing explosion? perhaps low interest rates, booming economy had a lot to do with it. Certainly, the lack of control in ability to pay a mortgage fueled the increase in ownership. Let's not forget how those mortgages were easy sells to the rest of the world for safe investments.

I noticed that Caroline Kennedy graduated law school in 1988 and was finally admitted to N.Y. and D.C. Bars in 1990 and 1991, respectively. She's currently suspended from D.C. Bar for failure to pay dues. Her brother flunked the NY State Bar Exam at least twice, if I recall correctly.

China sailor recalls pirate fight Forget the water cannon and molotov coctails. Shippers could significantly curtail piracy if they would give their crew firearms training and then arm the ships with RPG's and issue each sailor an AK-47 and a .45 automatic. Blow a few of these pirate scows out of the water and they'll think twice about trying to hijack a ship.

A city attorney says there could be situations where the measure would violate freedom of speech, but that those cases will be reviewed by the city. Ya think? Not gonna take long for this one to make it to the E.D. Michigan District Court, ya think? Kinda reminds me of the bozos who passed the most recent gun legislation in the District of Columbia and just outright dismissed any question of constitutionality. We all have an obligation to fight off these attempts by government, whether federal, state or local, to impinge on our constitutional rights. If we don't, we might wake up some day and find out they don't exist any more.

Maybe in SPITE of being a Kennedy, she has something to offer. Just a thought. And maybe she doesn't. What objective evidence has she given us that she is qualified, much less interested in serving in politics? What bothers me, and most others I think, is that this is an appointment. It's nepotism pure and simple.
