This photograph really strips away the barriers of time! Taken 110 years ago by Léon Busy in Hanoi, this autochrome was shot in 1914 whilst Vietnam was still a French colony. It looks disconcertingly modern - her hair, her dress, her very fahsionable iPad stand. It could have been photographed this afternoon, yet few of our grandparents would even have been born when it was taken. I think it is quite amazing. The photo was taken in colour and isn't colourised

The youth of today! Just slouching around in Qufu, China, with his shirt hanging out - not like in the old days when everyone took pride in their appearance... Oh, hang on, this *was* the old days! This photo was actually taken 111 years ago in 1913 by Stéphane Passet during his visit to the Temple of Confucius. It is an enhanced autochrome, originally taken in colour and isn't colourised.
