AV,

The clearest point I take from your replies, and the one I wish to limit myself in addressing, comes from your use of the word "should." That word implies a moral obligation. Even as a Muslim layman (I am assuming), you are making the case. Yet, the leadership -- the ones with the power and authrority and means -- are not. If someone fails to meet a moral obligation, then others have the right to call them on it until they make it good, even if it is the insiders like yourself calling for it. In the meantime, the fair observer must consider Muslim leadership guilty of omission.

There is an ancient maxim of the law: "Qui tacet consentire videtur." "He who is silent appears to consent."

This leads me back to my original assertion: that by their silence they consent to the terror done in the name of Islam. As long as they do not take the steps that even you, a Muslim non-cleric, have very ably suggested they should take, I will hold that view.

Stan

AV, why did you choose to delete the post referenced in the link below instead of discussing it? Is suppression of the news a good idea? How come you would rather suppress the news instead of discussing it? Was it an embarrassment to you? I'm just curious... TIA

AV, the post you intentionally deleted was a news report from a reliable news service that reported more than 50 girls were not allowed to leave a burning school building because they weren't wearing some religious article of clothing because they were trying to run for their lives from the fire that was consuming the school and which eventually killed all of them as a result... it was reported that these girls were already fully dressed, but just didn't grab that one piece of religious garb since they were in such a panic to escape the huge fire... could you kindly discuss and explain according to your religion why the religious leaders at that school took such action to block those girls from leaving which resulted in all their deaths? TIA

AV, could you kindly explain why a passport photo of a 5 year old girl was refused because her shoulders were bare and because "it might offend moslums?" TIA

If one thinks about the thread title, one can very easily conclude that the intent here is not to discuss or address how some "muslims" or "non-muslims" act or behave in the name of Islam.

Hence, I do not entertain any discussions in that context.

Anyone can create a different thread and post all they want to their hearts' desire.

Finally, and to be fair, one has to discern the difference between Islam and the cultures in certain countries. Changing cultures though I must add.

Suffice it to say, that a woman fought side by side with the Prophet and she was not his wife. She even defended him and was badly injured in that battle. And she was not the only one.

Hence, a person of average intelligence and without bias has to carefully think and consider what someone somewhere says or does in the name of Islam, and whether that can be for real or a pretext.

regards

AV
