Gary,

I did not mean to imply that the potential suitor needed a quick hit, but rather that if Fore's business is in fact slowing, then the risk associated with an expensive purchase is higher because there is no defined revenue stream to bet on 2 years out. In the case of LU/ASND, bets are that ASND will be accretive to LU's earnings by .12 next year (I beliueve that it might be .06 post split).

Understood.....and agreed. At the same time if you're an alsoran in the market you either have to take a hunch or risk being left in the dust. The "old world" telephony companies have to make a move.... or their days are numbered. They will not be able to develop data communications technology in house to address the competitive landscape. By the time they do the war will be over and all that will be left will be scraps.

Gary,

I agree. If you are the somewhat egocentric and autonomous founders of FORE, who do you sell to and at what cost do you give up your company?

Good questions. Don't know these guys too well, but I'm going to assume (big assumption of course) that they understand the market dynamics right now and are aware they need to partner with someone to make this a long term proposal for both themselves, their employees and the stockholders. A lot depends on current sales volumes I suppose. Still I have to believe that anything over $25 has to be seriously considered and at $30 it's a no brainer.... Of course this is only my opinion....

BTW: Why do you think PAIR is a takeover candidate. WHo would buy them and why?

Jach,

The article completely misses the point of converged networks. In effect the comments are worthless.

The confusion lies in understanding that CSCO's months and quarters do not correlate with julian months and quarters. Their months end toward the end, but not at the end,of a julian month. Their quarters are off set by one "CSCO-month". According to their theory, this gives them more attention at annoucement time and smooths out some of the seasonality quarter to quarter.
