Distri Update Just a small distri update. I said 1-2 weeks ago, that the situation will get better and surprise, it got extremly better. What I could see today in the channel. A64 - all bins available - huge supply. X2 - all bins available - supply is healthy, no gigantic supply in the low-end but its there. Sempron - 3400/3600+ still short, the rest not the lightest problem. To sum it up - supply got EXTREMLY better from AMD. All local dealers who cry about no volumes speak bull- shit. Mas, DougSF, a short clarification. With 'hard data' in this case I mean prove using links to two different post from the same person with a completely different view in them. Mas uses a free account. He cannot post on the OT board. That ofcourse does not mean he can abuse the main board posting OT. Lastly I've seen you're using the OT board for which tx. What I care about most though is that it stops, or that the accusations are proven. Either way the amount of posts go down, and the 'quality' will go up. I would have to pay separate for digital subscription as the us is slow for cable but I think things will improve over the next year. Until things change for the better I probably will stick with what I've got. Just to make this an AMD post :>) I thinkt the AMD/ATI merger will pay dividends a year from now as well with the additional need of digital decoding hardware accelerates...

They already provide the GPUs for Xbox and Wii. So it is a matter of keeping or expanding their part of the market rather than pursuing.

Dear NicoV: I would pay for good content, but I refuse to pay more than once for something. I do not like subscription services and won't pay for them as they do not supply what I would pay for. I get programming off tha air. I have a ATSC and NTSC tuner and I do strip out TV commercials from recorded programs. Now copyrights are different here than they are in Europe where it appears you are. Here the copyright was originally for 17 years and when that expired, works are considered to be public domain. Copyright was given to assist in producing new knowledge. After a short period, the knowledge is to be shared freely. That is the basis. The problem comes that every time a new medium arises, a bunch of copyright lawyers meet in some smoky back room and trade protections for new mediums for longer terms on older mediums. This pushed the current terms to 75 to 120 years. These long terms should be reduced to the same as used by patents, 20 years from the date of publishing (or the equivalent). If you can't make your money on the work in 20 years, there is something seriously wrong with your business model. Some think that with the internet, copyright itself should be abandoned as new knowledge is made freely and everyone can copy it. Other means should be made for compensation for the creators. Pete

It always comes down to details...I have no problem purchasing a music cd from BMG for $10 delivered to my front door...the problem is that too much DRM destroys the consumer experience and the negatives outway the positives...maybe they could come out with a hybrid system where once the company has recovered the initial costs through ipod online sales they could issue the cd/sacd/dvd-audio versions without losing sleep at night. The restrictions are actually causing problems to high quality music and movie market consumption.

I listened to Crammer today on his farewell radio program and he discussed AMD and the subpoena by the DOJ. He said one good sign was that AMD announced they would fully cooperate. That, he said was a sign they weren't fighting anything with the government. One only has to remember back to the Clintons when they threw up every conceivable roadblock to investigations then proudly proclaimed they were fully cooperating.... We'll see...

Does anyone know for sure the dimensions of the socket 1207 organic substrate? Is it still 40mm x 40mm Should be in AMD doc #31118 but they have not made that one public as far as I can tell, for god knows what reason. The Intel Xeon substrate is now 37.5mm x 37.5mm, I found that much.

For HD, my cable provider will use something like this: adbglobal.com These things don't need the flexibility of a general purpose CPU, they use fixed function hardware. If some channel uses a new codec, the cable provider will re-encode it somewhere in their network instead of on each settopbox.
