No way gaming consoles replace PCs. But with Fusion, PCs will replace gaming consoles. Gaming consoles are not that fast wrt PC graphics. The graphics engine in the PS3 is a Geforce 7800 at 550MHz core. You can get that performance for $200 today. It will be $100 next year and entry level in 2008. So when Fusion appears, PCs will have PS3 level graphics out of the box.
Also don't take Sony's hype of theoretical performance numbers. Their 2TFlops number is based on 1.8TFlops coming from the GPU, 180Gflops from the SPEs (SP 8*7*3.2GHz) and 25Gflops from the PPE (8*3.2GHz). They don't have the bandwidth to sustain that amount of performance. By that standard, a 2GHz A64 X2 has 32Gflops (SP). And you have the GPU, the ethernet MAC, the sound processors, the RAID controllers and all of the other HW accelerators. Most middle range PCs will exceed the PS3 numbers.

My bill comes to $33 a month which takes care of 95% of my viewing desires. I prefer to watch things without commercials and I only have basic cable for sports and news. Tried watching tv recently and can't stand watching commercials for twenty minutes out of an hour and I do not want to pay $10 a month for Tivo etc...It will be years before we have the bandwidth setup for 1080p at 25gb a movie for download(Unless you have an HD recorder and record directly and want a $100 a month cable bill!)...DVD and HD-dvd will be around for awhile... |

This is not off-topic btw as credibility on posting history is important here and you have shown yourself to have less than a yahoo pumper or basher which is ironic considering you look your nose down on them. You also have shown far less intelligence than I originally thought you possessed, again important in how much credibility one assigns to your posts and opinions. |

I know. But I also no now that you have zero data supporting your stance or else you'd have provided it already. What little information is available says they're due in nearly the same time frame, that is fafaik.
Thanks,

No, I did have data, along with a gut feel. It just took a bit for me to find it.

From: DRBES | 12/1/2006 3:27:56 PM | | | | duh kisser of death am still at it: Responding to another caller, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) is "cheap, cheap, cheap," Cramer said.
Although the company has been subpoenaed, it intends to cooperate with the investigation, he said. "This is important because you don't get in trouble with the government when you cooperate."
Further, a lot of companies are being subpoenaed so it's not as if the government is focusing in on Advanced Micro, Cramer went on to say.
"The fact that it's down makes it a buying opportunity," he said. "This one is definitely right."
