CJ, > Now Sony might be able to overcome all of this, but it isn't going to be easy. It certainly isn't a slam dunk.

Like my boss always tells me, "If it were easy, anyone could do it."

I doubt you and Robert G play all that many console games. It's all about the "must-have" games. The big titles like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear. That's how Nintendo survives year after year, despite having inferior hardware and restrictive licensing requirements, and despite being third in the race. Who's going to argue against Mario? Or Zelda? Or even Pikachu?

What does XBox have, besides Halo and the "shovelware" ports?

I stopped playing consoles after Mario 64, so you are right about not playing them much any more...

-------------------------------------------

Gears of War is a tactical third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games using the Unreal Engine 3 technology. It is a killer app, as the only system that plays it is Xbox 360. The game centers around protagonist Marcus Fenix, and the conflict between the human inhabitants of planet Sera fighting a subterranean enemy known as the Locust Horde. The game is available in both standard and limited editions.

Gears of War was released for the Xbox 360 on November 7, 2006 in select stores in the United States and was broadly released in major U.S. retailers on November 12, 2006 (this day was dubbed "Emergence Day" by Epic Games). It was also released on November 17, 2006 in Europe outside of Germany, where Microsoft did not publish the game after it was denied a rating.[1] According to Microsoft Game Studios VP Shane Kim, the preorder sales were expected to reach $100M USD, second only to Halo 2 in videogame history. The game has been stated by the Vice-President of Epic Games, Mark Rein, to have cost an estimated $10 million to make.[2]

Charlie/Groo still puts Nehalem in Q4/08: uk.theinquirer.net

This is very close to Fusion that AMD has scheduled for late 08 / start 09. Nehalem will need to compete with Fusion rather than only with K8L derived cores. Also this is a much smaller gap than I think DougSF implied it to be often enough - see my previous post that has a lot more content to it.

BTW, the above article is more about the strength and weaknesses of Quad FX vs Kentsfield. It mentions Nehalem as a side line thing. It includes the below 4x4 pic in which the double HTT IO point to point connections are nicely made visible. I'm guessing that the comparable Intel system uses the FSB to connect two separate DC processors in one package with two separate nVidia PCI express chips for graphics (one bus connecting all).

Rink

If you buy the retail version of Vista, you get both and can choose which one to install. At least that's what MS been saying for the last few years.
I can imagine that they don't want to support upgrading a 32 bit XP to a 64 bit Vista, because the 32 bit drivers can't survive th upgrade.

Nico, in that case the article is wrong, as I also think it is (it's written by Fuad). It does rather strongly implies that if you buy the 32b version of Vista you won't be able to upgrade to 64b Vista.
