Datatec Selects GTE Internetworking for Outsource of eDeploy Application Service Provider Hosting
The Agreement Provides for Dual Site, High Speed Internet Access
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Datatec Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: DATC - news), and its subsidiary, eDeploy.com, are to begin providing eDeploy software to clients through an ASP (Application Service Provider) delivery model, whereby the company will assume responsibility to run and manage the software while providing high speed internet access. To support those initiatives, the company today announced that they have entered into a one-year agreement with GTE Internetworking, a unit of GTE Corporation (NYSE: GTE - news), for the hosting, maintenance and network access of the eDeploy web-based solution.

eDeploy is designed to gather, manage and share all of the design elements and project-related information that comprise any deployment project. Datatec has incorporated its years of experience and powerful assessment, design and automated configuration tools into an easy to use and well organize web-based methodology that significantly improves the process for customers to rapidly deploy their hardware and software solutions, while reducing employed resources.

eDeploy.com will be hosted by GTE Internetworking on redundant architectures of high performance Sun and Compaq platforms in GTE data centers located in San Jose, CA and Chantilly, VA. All of the platforms will be managed, monitored and maintained under GTE Internetworking's Managed Hosting Services including administration of the Oracle 8.0 database.

To meet eDeploy's stringent uptime requirements, GTE Internetworking will implement its proprietary Hopscotch solution to create a geographically distributed web site architecture and full system redundancy. ``Hopscotch uses several network and sever-based metrics to dynamically direct end users to the most available web servers, which will provide fast and reliable service to Datatec and our clients' said Bob Makofsky, Business Development Manager for eDeploy.com. ``This will allow eDeploy.com to provide the highest level of response, availability and satisfaction to our users.'

eDeploy's distributed network architecture has been specifically designed to handle rapid growth. The company selected its core Sun database and application servers so that they can rapidly scale the network to meet customers' needs. The entire network has been designed as a mirrored architecture so that it is fully redundant an all fronts. Future plans detail additional data centers in Europe and Asia to be brought online within the next 12 months as customer requirements grow globally.

``We are already experiencing surprising demand for our business-to-business deployment solutions and we've accelerated our distributed infrastructure plan with GTE Internetworking's core offerings,' said Robert Gadd, Chief Technology Officer for Datatec and eDeploy.com. ``Datatec alone will leverage the power and value of eDeploy for the management of some 60,000 sites in the coming year. In addition, we've signed several other ASP hosting agreements with internationally recognized VARs that will use the same infrastructure to manage their own deployment efforts. This alliance with GTE Internetworking is a classic example of how two companies can leverage each others assets and abilities to accelerate growth.'

``We are very excited being selected as the application hosting partner for Datatec Systems and eDeploy.com,' states Diane Albano, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for GTE Internetworking. ``GTEI recognizes the enormous market potential and value of the eDeploy solution to Datatec's customers -- partnering integrators and strategic alliances. We're pleased that they have selected our solution to serve as the infrastructure for this important and ground-breaking e-business application.'

DATC just took a fall from grace. Time to buy now that it's at a 52 week low? New CEO, part of the VOIP revolution. Still a rather solid company despite their problems. Buy DARC for the rebound?
