My reply

When I used to get Benny Hinn junk mail, I sent their donation form back with a request for a donation from him to me and our little fellowship. I tell him you will get up to a hundred-fold back so give the best you can. I even referenced a great verse, one I’ve heard him use. Mysteriously, the junk mail stopped. And no best offering ever arrived. Is he that much against getting a blessing from the Lord?

I hope Joel realizes he’d be missing out on up to 10 million dollars by not giving his twitter follower his $100,000 request. He should think of his wife and his little family before turning down such a sure-fire investment. What a testimony he could give on the next broadcast when the millions came in from that act of faith. He would be flooded with many similar opportunities from all over his viewing audience nearly immediately. His already huge church would grow 30,60 or even 100-fold in less than a week following that broadcast! Think Joel before you turn it down. You too Benny.

Church "membership" is also the sin of partiality and is a man made invention used to make distinctions between members and nonmembers as well as to set pastors salaries. Jesus doesn't need a head count.

James 2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Sin of Partiality2 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. 2 For if a man comes into your [ a]assembly with a gold ring and dressed in [ b]fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, 3 and you [ c]pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” 4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil [ d]motives? 5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor [ e]of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and [ f]personally drag you into [ g]court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name [ h]by which you have been called?

8 If, however, you are fulfilling the [ i]royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the [ j]law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole [ k]law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the [ l]law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy [ m]triumphs over judgment.

The Roman Catholics depend on the list of infant and voluntary adult baptisms to determine who is eligible for the sacraments and who are subject to vows (!) and discipline. Churches all over are now 501c3 and state corporation entities. They means they have to have members for voting in annual business meetings. Churches also choose their officers from these rolls.

There are further alarming trends beyond these. For example, Rick Warren's Saddleback church has a membership covenant agreement. However, Christians have only ONE covenant. And the making of oaths is forbidden by the Lord Jesus and through his apostle/brother James. (chapter 5:12)

Money is the bottom line - literally - at Saddleback's membership covenant agreement.

From their website,

At Saddleback we have four requirements for membership:
1) A personal profession of Christ as Lord and Savior.
2) Baptism by immersion as a public symbol of one's faith.
3) Completion of the membership class.
4) A signed commitment to abide by Saddleback's membership covenant.

Part 4 of the covenant reads:

...By attending faithfully
...By living a godly life
...By giving regularly

by giving regularly, they also teach tithing. But, tithing is not giving it is PAYING.

Phil. 1:27 (Ph)
"Each one of you, on the first day of each week, should set aside a specific sum of money in
proportion to what you have earned and use it for the offering." 1 Cor. 16:2
"A tenth of all your produce is the Lord's, and it is holy." Lev. 27:30

It looks like it would be a good goal, but nobody's perfect, so nobody will be able to keep the covenant 100 percent of the time.

Best wishes,

The Saddleback Membership Covenant
Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with
Saddleback's statements, strategy, and structure, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with
the Saddleback church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to
do the following:
...By acting in love toward other members
...By refusing to gossip
...By following the leaders
"So let us concentrate on the things which make for harmony, and on the growth of our
fellowship together." Rom. 15:19 (Ph)
"Have a sincere love for your fellow believers, love one another earnestly with all your hearts." 1
Peter 1:22 (TEV)
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building
others up according to their needs..." Eph. 4:29 "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must
give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be no
advantage to you." Heb. 13:17
...By praying for its growth
...By inviting the unchurched to attend
...By warmly welcoming those who visit
"To the church ... we always thank God for you and pray for you constantly." 1 Thess. 1:2
"The Master said to the servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes, and urge the people there
to come so my house will be full.'" Luke 14:23 (NCV)
"So, warmly welcome each other into the church, just as Christ has warmly welcomed you; then
God will be glorified." Rom. 15:7 (LB)
...By discovering my gifts and talents
...By being equipped to serve by my pastors
...By developing a servant's heart
"Serve one another with the particular gifts God has given each of you..." 1 Peter 4:10(Ph)
"God gave...some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of ministry, so
that the body of Christ may be built up..." Eph. 4:11-12
"Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your
attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ...who took on the very nature of a servant..."
Phil. 2:3-4,7
...By attending faithfully
...By living a godly life
...By giving regularly
"Let us not give up the habit of meeting together...but let us encourage one another." Heb. 10:25
"But whatever happens, make sure that your everyday life is worthy of the gospel of Christ." Phil. 1:27 (Ph)
"Each one of you, on the first day of each week, should set aside a specific sum of money in
proportion to what you have earned and use it for the offering." 1 Cor. 16:2
"A tenth of all your produce is the Lord's, and it is holy." Lev. 27:30

Obama is dedicated to Israel's security? Could this lead to the treaty with death? Is he the antichrist?

I have no dispute with the various NT commands, but with churches creating covenants for their members to obey God.

How pastors control their flocks through a nearly imperceptible form of manipulation. I think there is a lot of validity to this pastor's point of view.

"You know how much I love you. Please don't say, feel, think or do anything that might remotely disappoint me." This is the most effective way many try to control people. It is subtle and often not recognized as control or even manipulation or abuse. They shower you with what feels like love and kindness. So much so that they would be absolutely alarmed that you would think, feel, say or do anything that might even remotely disappoint them. They love you so much and take such good care of you and know what’s best for you that you are terrified of hurting them.
