Starfield is pleased to report assay results for drill holes FL01-70, 71 and 72, which were recently completed on the West Zone of the Ferguson Lake massive sulphide project. Hole FL01-70 was drilled on Section 57 + 34 West and extended to depth the higher-grade mineralization intersected previously in drill holes FL00-66 and 67. Hole FL01-70 intersected the sulphide unit at a depth of 540.2 meters where 5.44 meters (18 feet) of massive sulphide mineralization was recovered before a dyke terminated the base of the zone. Holes FL01-71 and 72 were drilled from a common setup on Section 58 + 56 West at inclinations of -65° and -85° respectively with FL01-72 intersecting the target some 200 meters below FL01-71. These holes were sited as a 122 meter stepout to the west of hole FL01-70 to test the UTEM conductor in a new area. Hole FL01-71 intersected at 336 meters mineralization now recognized as typical of the upper portion of the sulphide unit. Hole FL01-72 intersected the West Zone from 480.5 to 513.3 meters with massive sulphides present from 483.8 to 498.5 meters. Assay results for the intersections in these three holes are summarized in the accompanying table.

Ferguson Lake Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-Platinum-Palladium Project, Nunavut, Canada
300 METER (990 FEET) WESTERLY STEPOUT INTERSECTS
45.75 METERS (151.6 FEET) OF MASSIVE SULPHIDES

Starfield Resources is pleased to report assay results recently compiled from the Ferguson Lake Nickel-Copper-PGE-Cobalt property. Drill Holes FL01-75 to FL01-84 all successfully intersected West Zone massive sulphides and further defined the mineralized target. Drill Holes FL01-82 and FL01-84, located on Section 6160 West were designed as stepout holes to trace the mineralized trend established on Section 5856 West by Hole FL01-74 (reported July 9th, 2001). Hole FL01-82 drilled at an inclination of -73° intersected the West Zone from 588.05 to 618.9 meters, including a total of 14.4 meters of massive sulphides. Hole FL01-84, drilled under FL01-82 at a steeper drill angle of -80° intersected 45.95 meters of massive sulphides from 671.23 to 717.18 meters and represents the deepest intersection obtained to date at Ferguson Lake.

Results for Holes FL01-82 and FL01-84 are summarized as follows:

Starfield Resources Inc. - Ferguson Lake Drilling Discovers New High Grade Palladium '103 g/t-3.29 oz/t' Platinum '26.7 g/t-0.85 oz/t' HorizonFerguson Lake Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-Platinum-Palladium Project, Nunavut, Canada

VANCOUVER, B.C., Oct 4, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Starfield (OTC: SRFDF chart, msgs)(CDNX:SRU.) has received results for a deep, stepout exploration drill hole recently completed at the Ferguson Lake nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE project.
Drill hole FL01-101, located on Section 6800 West, was sited 200 meters west of drill hole FL01-89 (reported 7th September 2001) and intersected the West Zone massive sulphide target approximately 200 meters lower than in hole FL01-89. A separate low-sulphide section with high-grade palladium-platinum content was intersected in FL01-101 above the massive sulphide zone.
Significantly, this new zone is interpreted as a separate horizon within the overall gabbroic host sill. It may represent a distinct mineralizing event caused by primary differentiation during cooling of the original sill similar to depositional styles seen at Merensky Reef in Southern Africa. The intersection in FL01-101 from 962.28 to 962.63 meters (0.35 meters) returned assays of 26.71 g/t platinum (0.85 oz/ton) and 103 g/t palladium (3.29 oz/ton). Results for zones intersected in hole FL01-101 are summarized below:

I was told by IR that there most likely will be a drill program starting this Novermber to test for what may be a "feeder" pipe below hole 101 ( where they found 130g PGMs ). Geologists on site believe it to be the source of the metals and if they hit we are in going to the moon fast. I was aslo told that more assays of the "black" host rock were found in many cores and assays are on their way. Tonnage update for base metals should be out this week before AGM. With the way the stock has been trading I would have to concur with James that it looks like we are under heavy accumulation.

Ferguson Lake Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-Platinum-Palladium Project, Nunavut, Canada

TONNAGE INCREASED BY 8.4 MILLION TONNES
TO 60.1 MILLION TONNES
MOBILIZATION FOR 2001-2002 DRILL PROGRAM IMMINENT

Results from recent drilling at Starfield’s Ferguson Lake property have now been compiled by N.C. Carter, Ph.D., P.Eng., the Company’s independent consulting engineer. Dr. Carter reports that 8.4 million tonnes of additional tonnage are now inferred to occur at depth in the West Zone between Section 6100 West and Section 6800 West. This resource estimate does not include the new Pd+Pt zone that ran over 4 ounces per tonne as reported in our Press Release dated October 31, 2001. This new tonnage is summarized as follows:

Additional West Zone Inferred Resource

Cutoff Grade Tonnes (millions) Cu (%) Ni (%) Co (%) Pd (g/t) Pt (g/t)
1.0% Cu+Ni 8.4 1.01 0.61 0.070 1.59 0.31
1.5% Cu+Ni 5.1 1.25 0.74 0.087 1.98 0.36
2.0% Cu+Ni 3.4 1.42 0.81 0.092 2.08 0.46

The Ferguson Lake project is now inferred to contain a resource of 60.1 million tonnes of massive sulphide mineralization in West Zone and East Zones I and II. West Zone, which hosts 92% of the total tonnage, includes zones of higher grades (1.5% plus and 2.0% plus Cu+Ni cutoff) occurring in two principal areas. These areas are contained within the broader mineralized zone between 3900 West and 5000 West and total 8.2 million tonnes grading 1.07% Cu, 0.82% Ni and 1.48 g/t/ Pd and 0.25 g/t/ Pt at a 1.5% combined Cu+Ni cutoff, and includes 2.6 million tonnes grading 1.18% Cu, 1.04% Ni and 1.88 g/t/ Pd and 0.32 g/t/ Pt at a 2.0% combined Cu+Ni cutoff. Two other areas of higher-grade mineralization are present in the West Zone at depth between 200 and 600 meters between Sections 5360 West and 6800 West.

Inferred resource estimates (excluding cobalt) for the Ferguson Lake project are summarized below:
Combined West Zone, East Zones I & II
Inferred Mineral Resource

Cutoff Grade Tonnes(millions) Copper (%) Nickel (%) Pd (g/t) Pt (g/t)
1.0% Cu+Ni 60.1 0.93 0.59 1.32 0.19
1.5% Cu+Ni 30.6 1.17 0.77 1.69 0.25
2.0% Cu+Ni 12.7 1.39 0.85 1.92 0.28

The Company’s independent consultant, N.C. Carter, Ph.D., P.Eng., has prepared the new estimates pursuant to CIM “Standards on Mineral Resources and Reserves” designed by the CIM Standing Committee on Reserve Definitions, adopted by CIM Council on August 20, 2000 and published in the CIM Bulletin of October, 2000. Dr. Carter calculated the new resource estimates manually for individual drill hole cross-sections employing the following parameters: Cut-off Grades – 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% combined Cu + Ni. Minimum Drill Intersection – 2.00 meters. Area of Influence for Individual Drill Holes (down-dip) – midway point between drill holes. Area of Influence for Individual Cross-Sections – midway point between sections. Assumed Specific Gravity – 3.80. A total of 150 drill hole intersections of massive sulphide mineralization were utilized in the resource calculations. Intervals between holes range from 120 meters on initial stepouts to approximately 40 meters for in-fill drill holes. Some of the 1950’s drill results reported only “PGE” instead of separate assays for Pd and Pt. As a result the palladium and platinum values are calculated from a property-wide ratio of palladium to platinum of 7:1.

Technical crews at Ferguson Lake are currently reviewing core from drill holes completed previously on the West Zone to obtain samples from horizons that appear similar to the high-grade platinum-palladium horizons recently discovered and reported on in holes FL01-101 and FL01-104. Samples from these horizons will be submitted for analysis and results will be reported on a timely basis.

The Company is planning a 2001-2002 drill program to determine continuity of mineralization of the higher-grade zones, both down-dip and along strike and to further explore the West Zone.
